Very pretty pink kit
This is one of first bread making kits. I purchased two of them. This is the second, mainly because I thought the pink was just so pretty! But all of the stuff inside seem like very good quality items. Iâve seen many homemakers making this bread and Iâve read about the many health benefits so I just wanted to give it shot. This seems to have everything you need to do it though.Iâm nervous to try, so it may take me a while to actually get to it, but I will try to update with photos once I do it!

Really, I just had to have a pink banneton. Two pink bannetons are even better. The baskets themselves are plain rattan, which I like, and not silicone, which I donât like. They come with two pretty pink flower-print cotton liners, which are nice.I do not bake sourdough as a general rule, but in other artisan breads, using a banneton can help breads rise in height rather than spreading too far out horizontally.Oddly, although I have the set with one round banneton and one oblong banneton, the set only came with one round silicone sling. The sling is rather on the flimsy side.I like the pink plastic scraper, but I wish it had a curved side as well as a straight side, like most bread scrapers. I will have to use a curved scraper for mixing the dough and scraping the mixing bowl. The straight side is used when kneading the bread.The bench knife is a pretty design with a pink handle, but I do not like the shape. I believe a bench knife should have straight sides as it makes it easier to divide dough and judge where to slice. It does have measurements on each side, inches on one side and metric on the other side.There is a nice bristle brush, which is used to brush clean dried flour off the banneton and cloth after use.The included âSourdough Baking Manualâ is just a two-sided sheet with a few pictures and no real information.Also included is a nice lame with extra blades.I like the pink silicone brush, but I do not use a brush while baking bread, so Iâm not sure what that is for.

Pretty over-priced for what it is
This seems like a basketfull of dollar-store items. The only things of value in it are the dough scraper and the transfer mat. The Bread Lame seems excessively dangerous and almost guaranteed to cut me at some point.

This set has all one needs to get started with their own sourdough bread. Being able to bake your own bread is a lesson in self-sufficiency, and is a wonderful way to relieve the stresses of daily living.This is also a great way to connect with your children, showing them that their food starts somewhere besides the grocery shelf.The one CAUTION if you’re using this with children: There is a sculpting tool that includes razor sharp blades, so extra care should be taken if using that.
