One of the most complete kits you can find
I have bought a few more kits before but I was just starting to make sourdough and I didn’t know of all the things I might need, so each set had only a few items. This is actually the only set that you need to get started. Unlike other kits, it has 2 jars, so you can keep one clean, and every time you feed your starter, you can start with a clean jar. Yes, you can use a regular glass jar, but this has a wide mouth, so easier to clean, it has measurements so you know how much starter you have, and then the elastic bands help you know when it was last fed and how much it grew. Once the starter is established, you probably won’t use the linen covers anymore, but they are very useful when you are first starting.I have a couple of silicone bannetons but I really wanted a rattan one, as is a natural material. I also didn’t have a linen liner. The banneton looks a little small compared to my silicone one, but it is the standard size for a small round loaf.The dough whish is very useful for mixing the dough and I use it all the time for my no-knead bread, which has a very sticky dough. The spatula makes it easier to mix the starter and to scrape the jar’s walls. Wood is more difficult to clean, metal is not recommended, so I think this is the better alternative.I did not own a duster and I was using a small tea strainer but this is so much easier to use. It makes a big difference when adding powdered sugar to desserts. I already own several silicone brushes, but I like to have extras at hand because I use them a lot for brushing my cast iron skillet when cooking and then I run it through the dishwasher so I need to have extra ones at hand. The measuring cups are also better than the other sets I own. One set has very short handles, which makes it difficult to… well, handle them. Another set does not have straight or rounded walls, and it’s difficult to clean properly. These are easier to clean and I prefer black ones, as it is much easier to see if they still have any residue or grease on them. If you’ve ever tried to hand wash greasy plastic utensils you know that you can scrub them for 5 minutes and they might still have oil residue on them.I love using both scrapers. The plastic one is good for scraping the bowl but also to help you fold the dough. The metal one helps you cut the dough into smaller portions. I already have a bread lame, so now I have some extra blades. I am not very good with it yet, but it will get better with some practice.I own one of these thermometers and I use it all the time for cooking meat. I’ve already tested this one against my other thermometers and it is accurate.The cleaning brush is useful for scrubbing the banneton and it is nicer than my old plastic one. I haven’t used the stencils yet or the bread sling.Also, keep in mind that this is one of the best deals as far as sourdough kits. For $29.99 you get a lot more items than other kits.

The Kit has everything!
Disclaimer: I have never made sourdough starter before.The starter kit arrived with everything expected, including a User Manual, that I just finished reading. I am impressed with the completeness and quality of items included. The measuring cups are of good quality, the two starter jars include tracker and thermometer bands that will greatly assist with activating the starter. The Banneton proofing basket and linen liner even comes with a cleaning brush used to maintain the proofing basket’s unique usability.The User’s Manual, despite being more of a pamphlet, is instructive and especially helpful by including color photos. Making sourdough bread from starter seems to be more of a journey than a short term adventure. Better to have everything needed in one kit to take the first steps of that journey.

No guessing

Can not wait to put this package to the test. Includes everything except the yeast, some flour and water and you are in business! A true one stop shop to get yourself started into the Sourdough world.Comes with an instruction booklet as well-though it’s not very detailed in terms of what to do after the starter is active and ready. There are tons of websites with recipes and more advance information available if needed. Buy and enjoy it!

Okay starter kit but unsure about quality
I was really impressed when I saw this kit because of everything that it comes with. I have bought similar things in the past that only included a few of these items for the price that this one is going for so this seem like a great deal. I am washing everything that can go in the dishwasher in the dishwasher and I didn’t notice any warping or peeling however the jars are kind of weird. They are glass but they have this sticker label part on it which I was worried would peel off but it is so far held through the dishwasher and use fine. Honestly the instructions for this set are more detailed and longer than once I’ve gotten with more expensive sets too so that’s really nice. Overall this would be a great for someone who doesn’t want to put too much money into it just starting out.
