I’m over 70 and recently my mouth starting falling open slightly when I sleep, waking me up with a dry mouth in the middle of the night. For months I tried to figure out what I could use (I’m a back sleeper), recognizing all I needed was something to stay in place under at least one side of my jaw “hinges” to keep my jaw closed even when my face/jaw muscles would relax in sleep. This looked like it might work so I though I would try it. Mindful of reviews that mentioned it was scratchy, I took one of my husband’s old sports socks, cut a small hole in the toe on the end (stitching it on my machine so it would not unravel, and that could be hand done). I then put the short end of the strap through that hole, slide the foot of the sock over the chin strap body, and “threaded” the long strap through the leg part of the sock. Instead of the chin strap’s original “scratchy” cover, I now have a soft sock cover. I make sure at least one side is snug under my jaw at the jaw “hinge” so if my jaw relaxes, it won’t have anywhere to drop. I plump a pillow on either side of my head/face so if my head starts to turn to the side, it rests against a pillow and holds my head upright and the chin strap in place. Since I got this in August, my mouth has dropped open only twice. I don’t even notice I have this on when I get into bed anymore.

Too small for male neck
I am a normal American male (5â8â) that wears XL shirts. The strap does not go all the way around my neck, it is too short

This is perfect
This has helped me so much! I was waking up several times a night because my mouth was dry from sleeping with it open. This has stopped that completely. I am sleeping so much better and am told I don’t snore when wearing it. I leave it a little loose so it props my chin, but I can’t feel it around my neck. I really like it.
