With Rose of Sharon, Balsam Tree & Mint biblical scents. The ‘balsam tree’, native to the Gilead area, yields an aromatic resin or ‘balsam’, from which the word ‘balm’ is derived. In ancient times it was quite scarce, and highly valued just like the Rose of Sharon or rockrose (Cistus). This flashy shrub yields labdanum, a fragrant oleoresin much appreciated today as fixative in perfumery. Mint is a family of fragrant herbs.
