New deliveries of Tesla’s Cybertruck have been paused following reports of trims “flying off” the vehicle, Electrek reports.

According to conversations with auto dealers posted in an online community for Cybertruck owners, the issue is impacting the vehicle’s “cantrail trim.” This is located on the roof ledge of the vehicle, on the side just above the windshield.

Tesla has yet to officially confirm the issue. But several Tesla delivery specialists reportedly told their clients that there is now a “containment hold” on deliveries of new Cybertrucks. This is where an automaker pauses new deliveries to save having to recall them after they are sold.

In June 2024, the automaker recalled over 11,000 Cybertrucks due to trims detaching. That time it was in the EV’s trunk bed trim, but you can find tweets from last summer with people pointing out loose front trims, too.

After launching the Cybertruck in late 2023, Tesla has issued seven recalls for the futuristic truck. Most recently, Tesla recalled approximately 700,000 vehicles due to an issue with the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that affected its warning light.

In 2024, the Cybertruck was recalled for everything from failing front windshield wipers and malfunctioning rearview camera displays to unintended acceleration from trapped pedals.

The latest trim issue comes as public opinion may be souring on Tesla, at least in many key demographics. A report from market research firm YouGov found that a majority of Americans now have a negative opinion of the company. People in the US are 12.8% more likely to have a negative rather than a positive opinion of Tesla, with this rising to 35% among those who describe themselves as liberals.

In January, the EV maker reported a yearly sales decline, its first in recent history. Can President Trump’s intervention spur a comeback?
