Give your dog’s mental acumen a boost with Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ Chicken and Rice Formula dry dog food. Around age 7, a dog’s brain begins to change how it metabolizes glucose, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision-making. Purina discovered that enhanced botanical oils can be used to provide an additional fuel source for the brain in dogs age 7+. When added to the daily diet of dogs 7 and older, these enhanced botanical oils promoted memory, attention and trainability. This dry dog food also includes chicken as the first ingredient, giving your dog a high-quality source of protein he is sure to love. Glucosamine and EPA, an omega-3 fatty acid, support your dog’s joint health and mobility, while omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin A promote healthy skin and a beautiful coat. Feel good about feeding him a high-quality Purina dog food formula with a taste that keeps him running to his bowl.

Veterinarian prescribed for my elderly dog.
When I took my newly rescued elderly Doberman Pinscher to his first veterinarian visit he was 20lbs overweight and sluggish. The vet told me to reduce his food intake drastically (2and1/2 cups a day) and told me to get Purina Pro Plan Plus dog food for dogs 7 years or older. It is pricey but a little bit satisfies their hunger so it goes a long way. I feed both my older dogs this food and they love it and are thriving, lively dogs! I’m very pleased with this product despite the cost.

Vet recommended, great for senior dogs!
I take care of my grandma’s dogs (a chihuahua and pomeranian, both are standard size and not toy or teacup) now that she’s moved into a memory care facility and we needed a change in diet. Our vet recommended this one and it’s been great; the older 16 year old dog had been having a lot of memory problems and sudden increase in accidents on the floor, excess agitation, and his mood and behavior have drastically improved on this food. He has had just two accidents since incorporating it (it definitely is forgetfulness and not incontinence, per our vet) and he’s a lot more alert and responsive than he was on his previous diet.As a bonus, the texture (shredded meat and veg in a gooey gravy—I hate it honestly) slows down the chihuahua who has a problem with eating too fast and circling his buddy like an unhinged vulture. Both dogs love the taste and think it’s the best food they’ve ever had, but one of them compulsively licks flat surfaces (I’ll let you guess whether it’s the chihuahua or the pomeranian) so there’s no real accounting for taste here.Worst thing I can say about it is that the foil is nearly impossible to get off in one piece and if you aren’t careful it will give you an agonizing papercut-style wound, leaving your grandma’s poor old dogs to think you’re starving them while you bleed through multiple towels for five minutes. (It’s only happened once but yes, I am still bitter.) It’s also expensive, but I calculated how much we’d have to buy of their old food to meet the same caloric amount and this is only about $45 more per month. For keeping my grandma’s dogs happy and healthy, we agree it’s worth the price. Also, anyone hesitating to switch to this food because of diarrhea should know that almost any diet change is likely to alter your dog’s stool for a few days! I’m slowly phasing out their old food with this one and both dogs had loose stool for four days upon introduction. It’s since improved, so I’d say stick it out for about a week before writing it off.

    Expensive but worth it
I know there was a review that said this is price gouging, but Chewy charges the same amount. It could be cheaper, Purina charged stores less. Yes, I can buy a 50-60 lb. Bag, but that would last my little (and senior, 14yo dog) for at least 18 months. Would drop my price to $2.48 (I think it was), but I’d need a much bigger container and a lot more space. Not to mention the food would go bad. Anyway, my dog happily eats this, and at 14, has a delicate digestive track, so I’m not changing. This was the first one among 5-6 we tried that she either wouldn’t eat, or upset her stomach enough for her to throw it up. So, we stick with this. Took the bag to our vet, who really liked the nutrient list, too. Even when our pupper isn’t feeling well, she’ll eat this with some cooked chicken and pumpkin on it.Bottom line, our dog loves it, and it was a challenge to find one she liked.

    Expensive
My 11 year old boxer was starting to experience mental decline, being awake at night, nighttime anxiety. We and the vet thought early dementia or sundowners. After 3 months we tried this food and on the second bag we noticed her burping a lot. Started giving her famotidine twice a day and all symptoms went away. Turns out she developed acid reflux from a round of carprofen in May.Long story short, the dog food was fine, very expensive but if your dog is showing signs of dementia or mental decline see if they have acid reflux first.

    A happy pup
During the pandemic we couldn’t get our regular food (Purina sensitive skin and stomach) so had gotten this as a last ditch effort to keep our 10 year old Aussie fed. I was worried about his stomach with the switch, but he’s never been better. No stomach upsets, and he suddenly has way more energy. He always seemed to move fine and without complaint, but he’s now WOUND UP again and loving life. We’ve had to start going for daily bicycle rides to take the edge off because he’s feeling better than ever. While a bit expensive, we will never have a different senior feed because it made a world of difference. He’s a puppy again but without the chewing!

Great value dog food and highly recommended for older dogs.
Not too long ago my dog had a cyst in his mouth and the vet went ahead and removed all of his remaining teeth. Even being toothless and a smaller dog he gobbles this kibble down without issue. His stools are consistent with each poop being firm yet wet. He also licks himself less frequently (see picture of him on my lap) as he would lick himself compulsively to the point of developing red streaks his legs. This food contains probiotics, MTC’s, and glucosamine all of which are important ingredients to have for older dogs. The probiotics help to strengthen their immune system and improve digestion and absorption of nutrients. The MTC’s are a fatty-acid derived from vegetable oils that studies have shown to help cognitive function in older dogs. Glucosamine is a compound found in cartilage that can help dogs with hip and joint pain.I recommend you give it a try, especially if you have an older dog that seems to be declining cognitively. There’s really no reason not to since it’s affordable, highly rated, and widely available both here on Amazon and at pet stores.

    Vet recommended dog food
I have a 10 year old large mutt who is getting slower but she is worth buying good food. She is a grazer and does fine on the Purina Pro.

Vet recommended – dog loves it.
Our aging Chihuahua loves her new food that we mix with a bit of her dry kibble.

My boy Brinley turned 10 this year, and I thought I noticed a decline in both his physical and mental abilities. I gave Purina ProPlan Bright Mind a try to see if I noticed any difference. After going through one bag, I personally did not see much of a change. He has been on Purina ProPlan Sport (30/20) for years and has done well on that, so I will probably continue to feed that, rather than the Bright Mind formula. Although a bit slower than in his prime, he was still able to complete his DCAT title, running in Fast CAT events with the same enthusiasm as usual. I might give Bright Mind another try as he ages further.

This is quality dog food that the seller is selling at an over inflated price. I’m shocked that Amazon is allowing this considering the same product is advertised with a different seller at half the price on Amazon. My error in not paying attention to the quantity as it is dog food I have ordered previously from Amazon at a very fair price. The seller is unwilling to compensate and frankly I am shocked that Amazon allows this to occur.

My dogs do great on this dog food. But Amazon delivery person didn’t have to leave out in middle of driveway for everyone to see or poss steal.

A wonderful dog behaviour expert recommended this for our 9 year old Lagotto. He has been on it for two months now and we are pretty sure he is more alert, energetic and interactive these days – wants to play the old games, is more interested in stuff, higher level of interactivity. Very glad we did this as it feels like we are improving his life. The kibble size is quite small compared to what we were used to, more like small dog size. Our pooch doesn’t have a problem with that, but something to bear in mind.
