This may be the most important review I have written. When my daughter asked for a Montessori “knife set” for her toddler, I really thought she had lost it. So many nightmare scenarios flashed through my mind. I read lots of reviews and did plenty of research. Most of these kits look to be targeted at 3-10 year olds. That is a wide range and not very believable. Many of the options sat toddler and then show an older child using it. I understand the goal of teaching a toddler safety with cutlery and kitchen safety in general but could a kit like this be safe for a small child. My granddaughter is not even two. I would like her to keep her adorable little fingers.I ordered this sent to me so I can test it for myself. Here is the good and the bad, complete honesty.I see this as a kit that can grow with a child if used under supervision. The wooden alligator knife is more of a smasher. You won’t cut anything more than a banana with it and that is fine. I can see that being used later for playdough or maybe cookie dough. A+ for the smasher.I took all of the knives and I trued to cut myself. I was a reckless as I could be and I could not even scratch my skin. By comparison, I took out a plastic knife like you would get in any plastic picnicware set or take out bag and it was much sharper. If you look at the photo of the white knife next to the pink and cream colored knives in the kit, you can see how serrated the white knife is compared to the dull learning knives. They are sharp enough to cut strawberries or watermelon but not enough to hurt a child. A+ for the knives.The set comes with a “peeler”. This feels sharp and I think it could peel a cucumber but it was not sharp enough to break skin. We are moving up on the sharpness scale so I would hold this back until the child is a bit older. Let’s give that a B+.There is a set of plunge shape cutters. These are metal and they would hurt if smashed into a delicate finger. They have a nice cap to hold so they should be easy to manipulate. They would do well to practice shapes in dough or bread…. with supervision. It is unlikely that a child would mash their own finger with these but look out to be sure. B-In the same idea is a crinkle cutter. I will take this out of the package for now. This is metal and it would be challenging for a child under 5. This is much sharper than the knives and it is intended for harder veg like potatoes. The potential for an injury with this piece is high. Put this away for later. I give this a D.The bag came with these little plastic picks. I am not certain what the purpose is. They are brightly colored, shaped like animals and they have thin little prongs on them. They are just begging to go inside the mouth of a young child. I am not limiting this to toddlers, even a school age child would stab something with this and bit it. The little prongs can break off and present a choking hazard. This is an F+++ and they are going in the garbage. I am shocked to find this in the kit.Overall, I am going to recommend that the contents only be introduced slowly as the child ages. This should only be used with supervision and in a home in which all other knife ware is secured so the child does not think that Mommy’s knife is safe like the one in the kit. Throw away the picks and you have a decent product.Note: it also comes with two little cutting boards and two tiny aprons. It appears that this is targeted at the preschool audience. I would agree with the few items of note above.

Great kitchen set
This is perfect for when my kids want to help. it came with a variety of different tools for my kids to use. All our kids save instruments which made me feel a little better with letting my kids help. Tools were easy to clean and they worked well. This was a great value, and I would definitely recommend.
