It looks like Elon Musk isn’t as interested in politics as he was a few months ago.

In an X post over the weekend, the tech billionaire announced that he would be available 24/7 at X and Tesla offices so he could monitor upcoming projects more closely.

“Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms,” Musk wrote. “I must be super focused on 𝕏/xAI and Tesla (plus Starship launch next week), as we have critical technologies rolling out.”

The post came after X experienced a major outage, which left many users around the world unable to access the platform. “As evidenced by the 𝕏 uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made,” Musk added in his post. “The failover redundancy should have worked, but did not.”

As for Starship, the FAA recently permitted SpaceX to launch up to 25 Starship vehicles per year, but that comes after a March launch saw the vehicle’s upper stage explode, prompting concern about debris over the Caribbean should another failure occur.

So, if Musk is going to be busy with his companies, what about his political ambitions? According to The Washington Post, Musk was surprised by the backlash to his work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He championed deep cuts as fighting fraud and abuse, but most of the changes simply stripped out things he (and presumably, Trump) didn’t like versus actual fraud. Many of the moves are being challenged in court; other decisions have been reversed. Musk has also reportedly clashed with cabinet members.

Meanwhile, the DOGE cuts have affected Musk’s businesses. Tesla dealerships have been vandalized while sales have tanked. There were reports that the board was looking to replace Musk as CEO, but the board denies it.

Musk has said he’ll likely wrap up his work on DOGE by month’s end, though he left the door open to dedicate several days of his week to his work at DOGE throughout the rest of the year.

“I think I’ll continue to spend a day or two per week on government matters for as long as the president would like me to do so, and for as long as it is useful, but starting next month, I’ll be allocating far more of my time to Tesla, now that the major work of establishing the Department of Government Efficiency is done,” Musk said during Tesla’s last earnings call.
