Handy but with a few caveats
I use these all the time, especially the dozen or so gallon size I use for freezing vegetarian quick-meals like bean burgers, etc., biscuits, bread, etc. A few things to be aware of, however:–They are *not* what I would call airtight seals. If you squeeze a closed bag, it deflates. Not great for that vacuum seal you get when you squeeze the air out intentionally and then seal a bag. I usually try to fold the top over and rest the bag of items on that seam, to get as much seal as possible.–They don’t stay open for drying. I get around this the same way I do for loading a bag – by folding the zip collar back over the bag (inside outing it). This provides the ideal support for loading in delicate items without needing to use your hands to hold the bag. Washing, I do the same thing. With the zip collar folded back over the bag, they stay open very well for drying. I usually just tuck one or several of them open and clean in a kitchen corner for air drying, then fold the collars back when dry and put them in their bin. Super easy and convenient. I use scentless soap and haven’t experienced a heavy smells issue to them, but it depends what you put in them, I suppose. Easy enough to reserve some for sweet and some for savory. I have bought 2 sets of these and an 8-pack of gallon sized and as of right now, I am out of most all of them right now, just having finished a big batch of bean burgers and breads – all of them going into the freezer. These make my vegan/vegetarian life much easier when my appetite is waned and/or I just don’t feel like hassling with food; I can usually “sell myself” on a great and quickly-thawed veg burger instead of just not eating. Never had a huge hunger or appetite. These bags make it easy to safely package your foods without using plastic, so that’s a big +! I layer foods using unbleached wax paper for freezer items.–The only annoying part about these bags is their zip locks. Some say they stop closing. In truth, it becomes an intense test of hand strength – not cool for someone with arthritis, tennis elbow, tendonitis from hand repetitive-activities like knitting, crochet, tech, etc., where a crushing grip to open a baggie isn’t an option. Opening isn’t much easier. However, only Some of the baggies do this on my sets! To get around this, I just use the back of a large clean spoon to zip the red bags. If they are hard to grip and open when frozen, I again place them on the counter and use the tip of the spoon to hold the bottom of the zip side down – pinning it to the counter for leverage – while I pull up with the other hand. Both tricks work really well and may help someone with grip challenges or just a loss of patience wrestling with these bags.Overall, these are worth the cost. I use them incessantly and daily and no longer have to rely on or toss plastic baggies. A quick wash with a soapy sponge on the inside, propped open with the collar folded back to dry, and they are ready for your next flavor adventure plastic-free.*If you are vegan/vegetarian (and don’t consume soy, as I don’t – and oh are there so many reasons to avoid it. Look up metals soy, soy recovery, etc.), it is super helpful to our way of eating to be able to make/freeze/have organic, non-gmo veg options that we can quickly convert with some added veg into a healthy meal. We *have to* eat and want to avoid the lifestyle fatigue that can come with getting lax about food diligence when we are tired. I have always large-batch cooked (from those days working at the restaurant) and as a single veg-based/PBWF/vegan, it is super helpful to make and freeze healthy options and not to bring junk options in – or get them delivered when we are busy or tired of the “food hassle.” I am really glad I invested in these bags…and will probably need to get at least one more order of them. They are great for freezing grab-and-go snack items to take when you go out, so you don’t become tempted by the toxic looks-like-food offerings out in “society.”These bags are just another healthful step in the right direction…and the workarounds I mentioned will keep them functioning for you for a good long while. I have had them for a good year plus and haven’t had to toss a single one! Great for packing any kid snacks, too, just remember that they aren’t airtight and will leak any fluids if tipped. Great to toss a handful of fruit and a healthy homemade snack in your purse for errands or the little ones. (Just remember that organic doesn’t mean non-gmo, nor does it mean they test for metals. I recently contacted Silk soymilk about this issue and they said there is no regulation for plant-based beverages, and knowing that soy bioaccumulates heavy metals, I can deduce quite easily that it must be pretty bad if they “can’t share any info on that with me.” Well, I can choose not to share my financial support with another toxic greenwashing company and products. I’d rather rely on organic, local, non-gmo (Non-GMO Project Verified) 2% milk for that splash in my morning coffee than some soy question (or black) mark. At least I know what is in the milk! We have to check Everything label-wise nowadays. It’s absurd, pathetic and sad that this is what the world is now, but that due diligence is unfortunately necessary. It’s not the gluten; it’s the wheat itself. It’s not the gmo’s, per se, but what they are being grown with, on and on. Soy, corn, wheat, sugar…all toxic now. How did this happen? All my life I have researched this stuff and it never ends – actually, it is so much worse now.Caveat Emptor! Thin and strong
This is my 3rd attempt at finding some good reusable ziplocks. I know, kind of defeats the purpose of buying reusable ziplocks, but don’t worry, I still use the others too. But these are my favorite. They are thin so don’t take a lot of room in my tiny fridge, and they are easy to clean without a dishwasher. Best part is that so far they have not held on to strong food smells. Nothing like going to eat your raspberries and having them taste like onions.🤮

    Guilt Free Food Storage
I am trying to free myself from the ziplock/glad plastic bag addiction I’ve had for 40+ years. These bags are sturdy, good variation in sizes and work as intended. They can be used in the freezer as well. Sometimes, it will be necessary to clean the interior depending on what is stored. It’s easy enough, just turn inside out to dry.

    I have already bought more
These are great. I use the small ones to take snacks to work. They seal up just great. The big ones are a little hard to get open. I either have to use my teeth or 2 pairs of plyers. Granted I am not terribly strong, but I don’t have any trouble with the smaller ones. But I would rather have them hard to open than failing to stay closed. I have already ordered more. And I see even more on the horizon.

    Useful!
We love that we are saving money since we don’t have to constantly buy plastic bags which also negatively pollute the environment. A little annoying to clean each time but that’s the sacrifice one makes in the name of being more eco-friendly and environmentally conscious. Very useful and works just as well if not better than the plastic bag alternatives.
