Takes very little storage space
I am very enthusiastic about things using silicone because it usually means they are tough but easy to use. These bread molds lie almost completely flat, so they can easily be kept in a location where they set on their edge. But they quickly expand into a nice size loaf pan and while we have not used them yet, I anticipate they will produce nice loaves.Most everything else that I have gotten with silicone has worked exceptionally well. Should there be any difference once we make bread in them, I will do an addition to this review, but for right now if you’d like to make bread then these would be a good addition to your tool kit.

Love these silicone baskets!
I ordered these oval shaped silicone banneton baskets because I bake a LOT of sourdough bread and I just love the silicone bannetons. The lay flat to store and take up a lot less space in my cupboard and I love the way the bread dough releases from them. I do not flour them at all. One time, when I was teaching a basic sourdough class and our dough was extremely hydrated and difficult to handle easily, I did spray a bit of avocado oil spray inside and it worked very well to release the risen dough easily without messing up the shape or the ridges. This oval size is excellent for making a loaf in a 4.5 qt. oval dutch oven. Note that these bannetons have ridges in them for decoration that are a bit different from others I have bought. The bottom of the basket is flat versus raised ridges. At first I didn’t like them for that reason, but if you are creative with your lame, the flat bottom allows you to “draw” patterns that will really show up well on the top of the finished bread and still have the lovely ridges along the sides. Another great feature (that I do not use personally) is the handles that you can hang them up with if you don’t want to store them in your cupboard. Highly recommended.Side note: I have been a Vine member for almost a year and I give totally honest reviews. To earn 5 stars, the products I review have to be really well made, perform extremely well, and have a decent price point. I have no qualms coming back to revise my reviews if products fail to perform or turn out to be junk.

Perfect Size and Compact Storage
I often make two loaves of sourdough bread at a time so I like that this bread proofing baskets comes in a two pack which makes it easier for me to proof two loaves of bread at a time. I also like that they are easy to clean, collapse, and stack making storage easier. These are also great gifts for friends and relatives that are into bread making. Very pleased to give these proofing baskets five stars.

Sides are too steep
I have used a few silicone bannetons and usually I’m a fan, but these just aren’t as well designed as I would like. With a silicone banneton, you always have to be careful about dusting it with flour because the flour does not stick as well as it does with rattan. As a result, very steep angles make it difficult to successfully turn your dough out for baking.These bannetons have very steep sides. They collapse nicely for storage, but the bottoms of the bins are completely flat and featureless. This makes your loaves pretty boring on top, where they should be most interesting. I have included a photo comparing the look of loaves shaped in this banneton and the popular Bulka banneton so you can see the difference. Unfortunately I did not snap a picture of the baked loaves before they were gobbled up.You can bake directly in this banneton. When I realized that my loaves absolutely would not turn out, I baked one directly in the banneton at 375°F and it worked well. I have included a picture of the heel of that loaf of bread – the rest of the loaf disappeared far too quickly to photograph.So, if you want a fancy silicone baking dish, go ahead with these – but if you want to make beautiful artisanal loaves, keep looking.
