Great product
I use this in all kinds of recipes. In pasta salads, with either red sauce, alfresco of pesto sauce. Also in soups. Wonderful in casseroles.

Cheap, substantial yet healthy part of a daily diet routine. This 8 pack is definitely a good buy which is why I have had it as a staple main part of my monthly subscribe & save shopping list for months now. Unlike most pasta it is actually a “set and forget” thing. I pour out half a box into my pot along with around 2 cups of water, set the stove top for high and the stove timer for 25 minutes. When the timer rings all I have to do is gently stir it once just to make sure to unstick any penne pieces stuck to the pot which is rare but easily fixed, then drain the remaining water out in a colander and serve.
No stirring during cooking or oversight necessary since these penne pieces cook so well. It is nice to be able to find something I can cook without having to stay chained to the stove.
Note: Actual cooking time may vary depending on your own stove, so make sure to stay at the stove for your first attempts to avoid the mistake I made during one of my early timers where the pasta ended up burning after the last of the water boil evaporated faster than I expected.

This is the only brand of pasta that I buy.
It cooks up perfectly every time, no matter which type I cook.
It never gets mushy and it keeps a nice texture and structure.
Buying the bulk packages here makes life easier and I can stock up on various pasta. I like to always have several types on hand.
You can pretty much always find one kind or another that the price comes out to a dollar or under per box and that works out fine for me because that is what I would pay at the grocery store. I wouldn’t buy any of them if they’re over a dollar per box, except for the Cellentani – I pay a little more for that one because I can’t get it in local stores anyway.
We probably eat way too much pasta and starches in general in our house, but…yummm.
This brand is great for hot pasta, as well as cold pasta salads. Everything keeps a nice firm structure – it’s perfect.

Likely the best pasta for this amount of money. It cooks in 11-12 min and it is best when a bit hard, in Italian âal denteâ. Did you know that you digest the pasta better when it is harder? When it is too cooked, or soft, it is more difficult to digest.
Penne means “pen” in Italian, because of its tube-shape with angled ends which was inspired by the quill of an old style ink pen.

Best off-the-shelf pasta…
I watch a lot of cooking shows. ATK (America’s Test Kitchen) rated the Barilla brand OTS pastas as the best, and they are right. Recommended cooking times are spot-on. Flavor, pasta ‘consistency’, texture is basically the same from box-to-box. And, the value via Amazon vs. big box retailers or super markets? Cannot compare. Amazon is the way to go!
Sorry favorite local super market chains, but a better price from somewhere else is better for me…

Love all Barilla products! Easy to cook and can make so many different dishes with this penne. Penne vodka, Alfredo sauce, garlic & oil, sauce yes I said sauce not gravy thatâs for Thanksgiving lol!! The main reason I love this pasta is that it absorbs the sauce and doesnât just run off like others do. Iâve been cooking with this pasta for years and donât plan on changing!
