Our Story
Kasheera Hickson, creator of the Mahogany Tarot Deck, began her tarot journey at 18 with a miniature deck. Fascinated by its insights, she spent years studying tarot and practicing readings. Finding a lack of personal representation in traditional decks, she envisioned a new perspective. Thus, Mahogany Tarot was born, reimagining classic imagery in rich mahogany hues. This deck aims to blend tradition with inclusivity for a fresh experience.
How did we get our start?
We began in a small apartment in Los Angeles. Noticing traditional tarot lacked diversity, I reimagined the characters to include more diverse representation.

The Mahogany Tarot deck reimagines the original classic tarot artwork by Pamela Colman Smith, created under the direction of Arthur Edward Waite in 1909, infused with additional images by Kasheera Hickson. Kasheera, a dedicated tarot reader and energy healer, was inspired to reimagine the classic RWS tarot deck to create a deck that provides representation for people of color.

These are gorgeous cards!! Glad I bought themâ¦I thought they were pricey now I see why, there worth it! The packaging was really nice and loved the hand written note â¤ï¸. Plus I donât mind supporting small black businesses. They arenât thin or extremely thick, just right. Also they have slight sheen too them (not glossy) so it helps when shuffling. They come with small cute storage bag as well. Itâs nice to have melanin version of the rider waite tarot cards. I recommend you buy them!!

I thought I would never purchase an “original” tarot deck, but I found these melaninated ones and I just really wanted them. How the owner packaged the cards and their personal message was really touching. I just purchased a tarot book and this deck will go nicely as I’m still an ameteur when it comes to tarot. I Have Been Waiting For This Deck!
I have been looking for a deck like this ever since I got into tarot two years ago. The deck is gorgeous and sturdy and very easy to shuffle. I was on the phone with a friend while cleansing them and even she admitted they sounded wonderful while shuffling. The artwork is the standard Rider-Waite fair but with Black people. It came with a lovely pouch which I was not expecting at all and I’m very grateful for that because sometimes boxes can get ruined after constant reopening. This is a great deck to add to your collection!
