Bitter Lemon stops chewing without awful smell
We bought this spray with hope of improvement over the old Bitter Apple spray we used to rely on to keep our dogs from chewing on things. The Bitter Apple worked like a charm, and tasted unbelievably awful, but also smelled awful. Even an accidental whiff of the vapor could get the taste in your mouth! I am a long time veterinarian with lots of experience in various behavior problems with pets. The Bitter Lemon is MUCH better in regard to the smell, as it advertises. We didn’t taste it, but it does seem to still deter chewing,and it has a faint almost pleasant smell, not overwhelming at all. Believe it or not, my mom bought this because her cat likes to chew on everything. That’s right – her cat! He chews on paper, paper bags, cardboard boxes, countertop corners, chair legs, and worst of all, the computer printer. It’s hard to spray paper stuff, but the spray seems to deter him from chewing on the edges of the printer for at least a day or two, then it may need to be resprayed. We also had the idea of spraying people’s hands and legs, ankles, feet, etc, with this, because he also has an occasional tendency to unexpectedly grab those in his mouth and paws, which is not appreciated, but haven’t tried this yet. Maybe this summer my mom says she will try spraying her ankles once she is wearing shorts. She recommends this product, and I am happy with how it has been managing her cats problem behaviors so far, although I wish she would use it more proactively. Highly recommend.this product!

Did not work and made me physically ill
This product does not work to deter my cat from our plants. I liberally sprayed my new plants down with this stuff(as per the directions), to the point where it was dripping off the plant. My cat? She went right up and started chewing. I let her, because I had read some reviews that said that they stop at one bite. She didn’t. She kept chewing. To add injury to insult, the mist from the spray made it impossible to breathe comfortably in my small apartment, and after breathing in the fumes from this product for fifteen minutes it made me violently ill to the point of vomiting and being bed ridden for hours. I have no idea what is in this product that made me so ill, but it is the only change I introduced to the apartment, and I cook my own food (which is vegan to boot) so it’s extremely unlikely that I gave myself food poisoning. It could be that I have a certain allergy that I’m not aware of; this product is probably safe for most people, however I would urge that you test your reaction to it before spraying it anywhere, and that you keep the area you are spraying it very well ventilated. I would go so far as to encourage a face mask, as this stuff is extremely irritating to the mouth andthroat. But again, this product did not seem to deter my cat at all; I could just have an extremely odd cat. Lol. JUST BE CAUTIOUS WITH THIS PRODUCT!

Used for a bunny with no results
I used Bodhi Dog Bitter Lemon Spray for a bunny so she’d stop biting the wood trim of my home. It didn’t exactly work. Funny thing is this product smelled just like other household cleaners, so I didn’t smell it to be any different from other cleaning products. The effect was no different either. Granted this says “dog/cat” and not “bunny” on it… I can’t exactly be the only person in the world looking for options to try to prevent an animal from chewing my home, but I also can’t give this fewer stars than three stars, as I used it for a different animal then the name and description suggests.

Good product; Results As Expected with Possible Exception
I bought this product for a friend with two cats that eat through wires relentlessly. One has not touched a wire since. The other, it’s hard to tell because we located a wire that I sprayed, and then was chewed through a day or two later, but it is possible that the damage had been done before we sprayed, and we just did not notice is. So I can’t quite give it a 5. But I’d buy it again for sure because it is safe, environmentally friendly and appears to do the job. I may update when we know whether it is working on the other cat. (Fortunately, my cats don’t go for wires, and have outgrown furniture, so I cannot base my review on them.)

Sprayed on my plants and woke up to even more leaves on the floor with holes in them. Ended up using almost a quarter of a bottle in one day trying to get my cat to stay out of the plants, but it did absolutely nothing. Waste of money.

I got this to try and save some soft furnishings and plants from destruction – my cat shows no signs of even noticing the spray scent, even when itâs freshly been applied. One of the unlucky ones!

Works a treat! I have sprayed this on all our electrical appliance cords & the chewing stopped immediately. We have put this on shoes (a puppy favorite!) couches and the chewing stops immediately. Also – a useful tip: If accidentally get any of this in your mouth (easy to do when you have sprayed the cushions on the couch) & can’t get rid of the bitter taste – rinse your mouth with an alcohol containing mouthwash, this seems to be the only thing that gets rid f the taste quickly.
