Unbelievable – A Must Have!
To start off, I am currently on the path of discovery of the runes. I have been a Norse Pagan for 5 years now but never truly dabbled into the runes.I started my rune journey about 2 months ago and have read 3 books so far while taking notes from every book.This is my 4th book and it has been the greatest book so far on the runes!This book is unbelievable in not teaching you the meanings of the runes, but rather having you understand them on a level I have yet to find in any book so far.This book doesnât necessarily require notes on the runes because after reading each chapter you understand them, not simply learn about them.He goes into each of the rune poems, breaks the rune poems down so you can understand the exact meaning of why each rune means what it means, gives you methods of learning each rune, and goes into how the specific rune was used back in the day. This book uses historical artifacts and the poems to give you the actual meaning of the rune, and not someone elseâs UPG.I recommend that after every chapter you read, to go on YouTube and listen to the corresponding video on his YouTube page for that chapter so you can absorb as much as you can.I am truly upset that this book does not get the recognition it deserves. If you are studying the runes, THIS IS A MUST HAVE IN YOUR LIBRARY!Other book titles I recommend getting is:Runecasterâs Handbook – Edred Thorsson (gives historical context of the runes and their meanings as well)Runes For Beginners- Lisa Chamberlain (So this shouldnât be the first book you read about the runes but is a good book to read after gaining the historical context and the historical meanings of the runes. This book goes into the meanings of each rune, however at times it might be reaching and a slightly UPG perspective. Still a good book nonetheless).Northern Mysteries and Magick – Freya Aswynn(Yes she is controversial like Edred Thorsson. Which is unfortunate and I do not support their political ideas. However they both are authors that do extensive research on the historical context of the runes and their information cannot be denied.)Nordic Runes – Paul Rhys Mountfort (Also uses historical contextTaking Up The Runes – Diana L. Pacon (Although A Bit New Age And Goes Into Spells, It Still Is An Interesting Read After Gaining The Foundation Of The Runes).Lastly is Helrunar – Jan Fries (This book should only be read once you gain a FULL understanding of the runes, as it is not for the beginner but for a reasoned Runecaster).Take your time with learning the runes as this is a journey and takes many months if not years to fully grasp the meaning of each rune and how their energies intertwine and mix with each other. Be patient with yourself and the runes.Good luck and remember, GET THIS BOOK!! I promise you will not regret it.

Offers a lot of historic perspective to paint a broader picture.
I was turned onto this book via recommendation by a YouTuber that had done a review of it and picked it up for myself. I have read probably 12 or so books on the runes now, trying to paint myself as broad a picture that I might be able to see around author bias (avoiding books written by known Folkists, that is).This book in particular is one of the few that uses other historical sources: the Eddas, the Havamal, and runic archeological finds to give the context to the runes that a lot of the other modern books lack. It also covers – when applicable – all three rune poems as well (Norwegian, Icelandic and Anglo-Saxon) which many books don’t cover. It also uses evidence from the other poetic sources to give understanding and context to the poems that a new reader might lack. Sources are also clearly labelled and stanzas are marked so that you can do further reading if you feel like you want to.Using examples of how runes were used historically was also a really nice to see in a book like this.HIGHLY recommend, if I could give it more than five stars I would have. Anyone that asks me about rune books after reading this one will get pointed in its direction.

More complete and accurate than most available in the US
This is a great book. Most books about runes I have previously read were not nearly as accurate and were full of personal opinion. This book does a great job comparing the runes with the archeological findings and the known rune poems. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the runes, regardless of their experience level.

Having read a number of available books covering Runes and Northern Traditions, I was delighted to find this intelligent and informative resource. Source documents are referenced for all runes. Symbolic, cultural and spiritual nuggets are made available.The author does a wonderful and unbiased job providing a text that is concise and wise.

Best book on the runes
This book is essential for anyone looking to learn more about the runes and for those who are looking to add more depth to their knowledge. The Call of the runes adds context to the runes by going through Nordic myths, culture and history. It reads easily and gives some much needed clarity on all the ancient poems about the runes. I really enjoyed reading it and I learned a lot! A great addition for the aspiring runeologist!

Desperately Needs an Editor
As far as the information goes, I think the author does a wonderful and thorough job. I found it very frustrating that there was no serious editing, with typos and grammatical errors on every single page. This is a guy who knows his stuff, but doesn’t know how to write, and this book could be so much better.

And I’ve read a few. Very pleasantly surprised by this book. The author really knows his stuff and arranges each rune’s chapter in such a way where you can read the in depth history of the rune (including historical magical uses) or just skip to the part that discusses its use in modern divination.I actually bought this book by mistake, but now no regrets!

I have quite the collection of Rune books, over a dozen of them, but to my disappointment, not one has been able to fully cater to my needs. Many of the books contain information that I find unnecessary or ignore historical facts, while some impose rigid techniques for working with Runes that I don’t agree with. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to come across books that contain false information, just to sell more copies.However, my search for the perfect Rune book ended when I discovered “Call of the Runes”. This book is unlike any other I have read in the past 30 years. It not only covers all the aspects I was looking for but also provides a comprehensive understanding of Runes. From the historical background to practical applications, “Call of the Runes” has everything I could have wished for in a book on this topic.”
