This delectable spread is a favorite in France. Made by cooking the chestnuts with sugar and vanilla, it is excellent on toast and because of its thick and smooth texture, it also goes well with ice cream or yogurt. Some use it in place of chestnut puree to make a mont blanc (french dessert made of pureed chestnuts and whipped cream, often on a meringue base). Of course, you may also find yourself eating it straight from the jar. Once widespread in France, chestnut trees, or chataigniers, are now becoming scarce as land has been given over to more profitable crops like grapes. Today the number of regions producing chestnuts has dwindled – ardeche, corsica, and limousin are now the principal producers of chestnuts.

Have bought this product for years
Creamy and sweet but not overwhelming. Can doesn’t always around intact but the content is ok. The price has gone up tremendously so I don’t but it as often but definitely worth a splurge every once in a while. You can use it in the making of desserts although I use it as a part of a fruit salad.I serve it i small bowls. Put about a heaping tablespoon of chestnut cream, fruit salad on top and a dollopof whipped cream over the fruit salad. Delish!

Best for Gateau au marron and Mount Blanc
I know this marron paste before in Spain, and it worked well. I decided use it again for a seasonal cake. It was easy to handle with rich marron flavor. I make it every year.

Great on toast, in cakes, etc., and price is good
I have a friend who makes a chestnut cake so I gave her a can. She swears by it, was pleased when I told her the price. Now this is all she uses. I transfer it to a jar as I spread it on toast. Delish.

A nostalgic delight, but missing a resealable lid
It was such a pleasure to share this with my daughter, who had not had crème de marrons since her early childhood. The shame (arguably) was that we had to eat it up in just a few days, as there was no resealable lid. The gourmand in me thrills at this packaging fail, but the sensible part wants to be able to savor this chestnut delight at a more leisurely pace, especially given the lofty price!

Havenât had this in years.
Back in France, I used to eat this from a tube but I must say it was just as good from the can. I used a spoon and loved this chestnut stuff. You can put it on toasts as you would jam.

perfect for traditional christmas desert !
may seem pricy but it’s OK knowing it comes directly from france. Don’t expect to pay cheap. It still taste perfectly !
