Yes, these collars are scary looking. Yes someone might look at you and think you’re hurting your dogs. Yes these collars are possibly the best and least painful way to train and control a dog.Let’s put this one to bed right now, these collars do not hurt unless EXTREME force is used. Under normal (even rough) usage these collars will not leave any mark, will not puncture skin, and will work extremely well. I know this as I let people test it on my arm! The worse they will do with REALLY rough pulls will cause the dog to cough – don’t worry, they will be fine and likely won’t do that again.This collar is an amazing way of mimicking a pack-leader dog correction. Dogs recognize it and most dogs will obey it right away when you start using it. I’ve seen many dogs (mine included) have a near magical change once these collars are put on. Even some of the most stubborn and powerful dogs will be transformed when this collar is properly used.Now, please note: DO NOT leave this collar on the dog unattended. This is not a collar that stays on the dogs all the time, this is not a collar that’s left on the dog when off the leash. This collar should ONLY be used while walking the dog, and preferably with a solid line (not a retractable leash).I love my dogs. I love all dogs. I’ve tried everything on problem dogs in the past from electric collars, to citronella, to air-horns. These collars work better than all of those put together, and do not damage the dog at all.If you’re really worried about them damaging the skin, you can always try the rubber tips – but understand that will make the collar a bit less effective.

Shockingly Effective!
I recently became the proud owner of a gorgeous German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix named Daisy. Daisy is only two, but weighs eighty-five pounds. She has all of the energy of a puppy, combined with the strength and size of an adult. Our first few sessions on a leash with a traditional collar were extremely challenging. I’m aspiring to make her a running companion, and the goal of running nicely by my side on a leash seemed lightyears away.A friend of mine suggested this collar. I had experience with a collar like this when I was pet sitting a friend’s dog. For this price, it definitely seemed worth a try for Daisy. The transformation in my adorably spazzmatic leash puller was instantaneous. The collar seemed to guide her toward self-correcting her behaviors, and our walk was much more pleasant and disciplined. I know that with more practice, she’ll have excellent leash manners.For those concerned that the collar is painful to your dog: Daisy showed absolutely no signs of being in pain. The “spikes,” for lack of a better word, are quite dull. And the collar actually seems fairly loose on her. It seems to just work as a gentle corrective tool. In fact, I think it is less painful to her than the traditional collar. She pulled so much on the traditional collar, she was choking herself (no matter what I tried to mitigate that) and she would still be panting heavily several minutes after a short walk. Needless to say, this worried me, and energized my search for a different solution. I’m so happy we’ve found it. There is no more choking or excessive panting with this tool.There is one downside to this collar, and for me, it’s not enough of a downside to downgrade my star rating. It’s a little trickier to put on than a traditional collar, particularly as you are first learning how it attaches. I would recommend trying a few times on your own before you attempt to secure it on your dog. If your dog is really jumpy when he or she learns that it is time to go outside, this device might be frustrating, Some people may disagree with me, but I need my pup to sit nicely for a few extra seconds to get this collar secured. She obliges… usually 🙂
