Ducktrap traditional-style wild sockeye salmon comes from Alaska. Ducktrap has perfected the brining and smoking recipes to accentuate the distinct flavor of wild salmon. Our signature flavor is developed by slowly cold smoking with a unique combination of local Maine maple, oak, cherry and apple woods. This taste is a robust blend of the woods and sea.

Not joking about “Robust Flavor”
The package describes it as robust flavor, and they really mean it. I actually didn’t care for this salmon at all, but I’m giving it 4 stars because I don’t think there’s anything WRONG with it. It just had a very smoky, very fishy flavor that was a little too much for me. But if you really like that smoky flavor you may love it. (I much prefer the regular “signature style” salmon from this same brand. It has a much more subtle flavor, it’s very good!)

There’s lox and then there’s LOX.
As most folks know, there’s no such thing as Atlantic salmon that aren’t farm raised. That includes Norwegian salmon. It was the Norwegians who developed farm-raised salmon, after all. Most smoked salmon sold in the U.S. starts with Atlantic salmon. To me, over the years, farm-raised salmon have become rather tasteless, even more so than cage-raised chicken. Salmon has become filler fish to which seasonings are added to create flavors. The same applies to smoked salmon to the point that the smoking technique is more important than the fish taste. This is not the case with wild-caught Pacific sockeye salmon. The Ducktrap folks deliver a high-quality smoked salmon. The slices are uniformly thin, large, and easy to separate. These lox deserve being served with the best quality bagel, cream cheese, butter, freshly-cracked pepper, and fresh dill one can find.

My Favorite Pairing for Crackers!
This smoked salmon is my favorite snack on crackers as a snack. Can’t beat the amazing flavor and texture of this brand. Also delicious on an eggs Benedict!

Cold Smoked wild Sockeye Salmon at its Very Best!
This Ducktrap, Cold Smoked wild Sockeye Salmon is one of the very best forms Nova Scotia that I have tasted in many years. The texture is smooth, the flavor is superb, and the smell is incredibly FRESH. I use this with Multigrain Crackers or with Multigrain Avocado Toast. EXCELLENT.. EXCELLENT…. EXCELLENT!!!!!

Didn’t care for the flavor
I found the flavor to be only smoke, very little salmon flavor. And I didn’t really care for the smoke flavor. I tried using it first on a bagel, but it’s not lox – and it’s not sold as such, so that’s OK. I tried using it with pasta and the flavor just disappeared except for the smoke. I tried using it with a cracker and there was no flavor beneath the smoke. On the plus side, the price was reasonable for smoked salmon and it kept well.
