Spiritual development requires enormous amounts of energy, thus those who aspire towards the blossoming of the soul need methods of acquiring and utilizing energy. Hidden in the runes we can find such methods. Then, through The Aeneid, we learn how to use that energy.

The Nordic runes are very ancient letters known to contain great spiritual mysteries, but their true nature has remained untapped by modern seekers of knowledge. Each rune represents a circuit of energy in Nature. By understanding how the runes are present everywhere in Nature, one learns how to utilize them in daily life to empower the awakening of the consciousness. One such method is to use the physical body to emulate a rune in combination with prayer and sacred words. By mirroring the runic circuits of Nature, we become capable of receiving and transforming great amounts of energy.

Yet, energy alone is not enough: one also needs to know what to do with it. For that, Samael Aun Weor unveiled the beautiful symbolism of The Aeneid, one of treasures of classical literature, in which we discover many secrets of the spiritual path. Written by the Roman poet Virgil between 29 and 19 BC, The Aeneid is considered the greatest Latin masterpiece. For more than two thousand years it has remained one of the most studied, memorized, and analyzed writings, yet its true meaning has remained hidden. On the surface, it tells the story of Aeneas and his struggle to establish Rome, yet in truth the story is like all myths: it is an archetypal, symbolic representation of the spiritual path. Like all the great heroes – Odysseus, Herakles, Arjuna, Samson – Aeneas represents the soul who seeks to restore its divine inheritance, and to do so it must overcome the consequences of its former mistaken actions. That is a work of practical action in daily life through which the soul is raised out of suffering. This book is a guide to accomplish it.

    Profound, Priceless, and Practical!
The universal energy of the Runes have practical and priceless exercises. The word magic means “to have power,” and there is nothing fantastical about it. It is practical and powerful. That power belongs to our own particular individual God, our Aleph, the first card of the Tarot, so this book is a great place to start. For people that struggle to find their purpose in life, it is often because they are looking at what their terrestrial personality can (not) do with the mundane limited resources that we have with the modern life that we know. When we let our inner Divinity do our spiritual work, by awakening our consciousness and harnessing energy via the practices provided in this book, we then have the strength to overcome suffering, in whatever form it takes. This book is explicated from a variety of perspectives to help the reader get an eclectic understanding of how to become an authentic Magician. The Magic of the Runes offers simple explanatory chapters and practices for each “Rune,” which are universal circuits in cosmic nature that can be utilized by anyone to awaken their consciousness and develop power over the causes of suffering. But this book also provides extremely esoteric scientific data to support and empower said practices. The evidence explicated in this book is immediately confirmable upon reading the book consciously; simply reading the book can “magical.” Moreover, for those of us that easily tire of esoteric scientific jargon, such as the quantum physics of puncta or how to create infinite parallel universes with the Runes, Samael Aun Weor also artistically unveils to the Aquarian audience the path to God as classically explained in Virgil’s “The Aeneid” through his initiation of the 5th Gospel that has never been publicly available. We need to awaken fast, and Runes expedite the process!

    Title is a false representation
This book is really an anthology of lectures and writings by Samael Aun Weor, a man who began a gnostic movement in Latin America in the middly of the 20th century which has spread across the world. It is not really about the runes, except for a few chapters where he talks about the Armanen Futhark (and specific runes within it) and gives very basic exercises that would be familiar to anyone who has already studied that group or even read anything by Edred Thorsson. It’s really just to get people interested into his brand of gnostic spirituality more then anything else. The majority of the other chapters are a hodgepodge eclectic spirituality mashup of kabalah, greek myth and legend, and Wagnerian Opera. The other problem I have with this book, is that Samael is a homophobic bigot, which he states repeatedly in this book that homosexuals are doomed.

Psychology, Energy, and the Power of Mythology
The runic exercises or runic yoga are postures that, combined with prayer, visualization, mantras, concentration, and relaxation, help to assimilate, awaken, and transform energy for the development of one’s spiritual and conscious potential. Samael Aun Weor explains the runic exercises, Virgil’s Aeneid, Wagner’s opera Parsifal, and Greek mythology in this text because in order to work with the spiritual energy of the Runes, one must comprehend the functionalism of the mind through meditation and psychology, the latter which are symbolized in many Greek mythologies, operas, and stories. Therefore, “The Magic of the Runes” not only explains practices for the awakening of consciousness in relation the Futhark (Nordic alphabet), but also how to comprehend and eliminate one’s defects and egotism through the symbols of ancient narratives. Stories from The Aeneid and Wagner’s Parsifal compliment this work with energy, for the heroes represented in these myths teach the path of perfecting the soul, a path that is aided through the Futhark. The author explains that by comprehending and transforming one’s egotistical qualities, energy is liberated. As Samael Aun Weor indicated in other texts, without psychological work in meditation, the runes will not be effective.“The Magic of the Runes” is a powerful and practical book of exercises, yet all of these are predicated on an understanding and knowledge of how to meditate, control the mind, and refrain from harmful mental states. If you have read Samael Aun Weor’s books on psychology and are looking for ways to deepen your meditation practice, the Runes and psychological instructions in this book will help.

Quite possibly one of my favourite books by Samael Aun Weor. Amazingly comprehensive, it gives a complete practical explanation of the Gnostic path. One of the key features of the book is that it teaches a series of “Runic” practices – exercises which combine posture, meditation, prayer, visualization, and mantra for specific spiritual results. There are runic practices to harness energy, to get in touch with the Divine Mother, to develop willpower, to transmute the sexual force, to negotiate karma, develop the conscience, contact the elementals of nature, and more. Gnostic practice is very dynamic, so I like it how we can select specific runes depending on our current needs… One week we might need to work with one particular rune, the next week we might want to work with a different rune. There are also some really good chapters on meditation and the inner psychological work. The “Ten Rules for Meditation” chapter is one of my favourites – it gives some very solid guidance on how to set up an effective and strong meditation practice. And in addition to all this, threaded through the book is the author’s reflections on the spiritual significance of Virgil’s Aeneid – a epic classical poem which describes the journeys, tribulations, and adventures of Aeneas, who flees his homeland and sets out on a quest to found Rome. Samael Aun Weor suggests that the Aeneid is really an allegory, describing the symbolic journey of any person who walks the spiritual path. In this sense, the adventures of Aeneas can illuminate our own experiences and struggles. All of these themes are threaded together in a flowing book that is highly practical and amazingly comprehensive. Quite possibly one of my favourite books by this author.

In this concise book of profound wisdom, Samael Aun Weor synthesizes the mysteries of the Universe in a way through which a person can come to a true UNDERSTANDING of these mysteries. He does not attempt to write down in volume after volume their precise mechanics, but speaks directly to a reader’s consciousness, giving them the tip of the icebergs, that through meditation and comprehension one will understand, not merely intellectually, but as living information in relation one’s life. In this book he uses the Nordic runes and the Greek myths as a foundation, that a person may understand their Divine Mother, their Innermost God, meditation, the Kundalini, the Word, and that something-very-undesirable which enacts in our common presences those factors which crucify Christ, destroy the earth, ect, known as slander, bragging, shame, servility, swagger, hate, lying, ect.I cannot recommend this book and others by this author enough, as they give the keys to comprehending all the ancient religions of the world through direct experience.

The author knows literally nothing about runes. He gives his own made-up names to them, drops his own devised ‘runic postures,’ and that is it. There is no attempt to link the runes to the Aeneid and in fact there is barely any mention of the Aeneid, which it appears he knows as well as he knows the runes. Don’t waste your money like I did, is my advice.

True Magic! This book shows you the possibilities that this world desperately needs in terms of taking charge, responsibility for ourselves and the awakening of our own consciousness, which lies in a state of delusion, a persistent lie, which makes us suffer and act, think and behave through a one way system directed by our egos! We are not in charge and have become completely disconnected from our Divine Mother and Father! It’s a blessing to have these teachings and the tools to create a Revolution against all our weaknesses and evil ways!
