Fun and not too hard
This was a surprisingly great activity. I have had bad experiences with dig activities in the past where sand or mud or charcoal dust gets all over the place. I laid out a big piece of poster board and put the item on top. With a little bit of water you can really easily dig these out and there was much less mess. My daughter is just under 7 years old and was able to do it all by herself. She loves the gemstones and put them in a little sack, which she took to school to show all her friends! She said all of them thought the gemstones were so cool! This is very giftable. It is not going to occupy your kid for a long period of time, but they will feel a sense of accomplishment upon pulling out each gemstone.

Great Gift for Kids
We have purchased this Gemstone Dig Kit a few times for our grandkids and they always love to ‘dig’ up the hidden gemstones/crystals. It’s great for birthday party gifts or just an exciting activity for the kids to do at home. They also enjoy reading the learning identification sheet included to know more about their new ‘finds’.

Great activity
My five year old loved digging to find all the different stones. I had to assist a little, but for the most part they were easy to find. The geode is there, but is a bit smaller so you really need to dig for it. Keep in mind that it’s a fragment of a geode, not a full one, so the shape isn’t circular. To find it, I just poured water on the remaining digging surface and let my son hack away at whatever was left. Overall, really fun.

Super easy, but beautiful gems!
We’ve done a few of these kits and this has been our favorite so far. It’s not a challenge at all – all of the gems were so close together that the brick crumbled and they all fell out within five minutes, but the end result was a lot of gorgeous stones. The only disappointment in the bunch was the fluorite which was tiny and bland. I would still recommend this to anyone who has a Rockhound in their lives.
Personal note: I know this is meant for children, but I do these with my 75 year old Rockhound dad, and he loves them. If you have someone with the beginning of cognitive issues, these are an amazing way to keep them engaged.

Great gem set
As another reviewer mentioned we were also missing the geode crystal which my daughter was really looking forward to excavating, but I told her to keep looking in that muddy mess and we finally found them all! The geode was the most difficult to find because it blends in very well with the mud, but worth the work and effort she put into it. Very nice set and kept her busy for a while. She will be displaying her work for all to see, definitely happy with this purchase.

Se trata de una roca de barro blanco duro super compactada, la cual puede llegar a absorber cantidades ingentes de agua. Sin exagerar, le vacÃas media botella de agua y desaparece, y esto intentando rascar la primera piedra… Para deshacer la roca entera hemos gastado tanta agua que hemos cambiado de tramo en la factura del agua y nos han pegado un buen palo.
Cuesta un poco extraer las piedras, pero ahà está la gracia, que se entretengan los niños y se tiren horas en acabarlo. Una vez extraÃdas, algunas no se parecen en nada a las fotos ejemplos y cuesta saber cual es cual.
