Good kit with a couple of things to remember
Overall, good kit. Its crystals, you grow them, mission accomplished.Could of things to point out:1) There are three crystal powders. Each one is a different crystal type. They will not look the same by way of color or structure. I know this because I ordered two kits and each of the purples was one type of Crystal. The blues were another type of Crystal and the greens were yet another type of Crystal. This is important because if you’re trying to grow an apples to apples comparison with all three crystals, you will not get it. It’s not a terrifically bad thing as long as you know this going into it.2) There is only one grow cup. We ended up buying silicone cups of an appropriate size from Amazon so we could grow all three at the same time. We were doing a science fair project for growth. If we couldn’t grow them all at the same time, it would have taken us three times as long (a week each). If you’re on a time crunch, that’s not good. It’s not a bad thing since it only shows one cup in the description pictures, but you may not think of the time crunch aspect when you order yours. In conclusion, it does what it says it’s gonna do: give you the sets of crystals.

    Granddaughters surprise!
Granddaughter loved the crystal garden. Colors are very pretty and she also wants another one, like her brother.

    Some good and some bad.
The kit was interesting but the instructions I followed first were overly complicated. This led to confusion and poor performance of the product. Know what I know after, another kit would likely get bigger and do better.

Rock solid fun little project with your kiddos
We had success growing all 3 of the crystals and let them grow in our basement where it is pretty dark, no movement and lights on only when we are down there on the weekends with the temp always around 65 – 70 degrees. We followed the included instructions but then used other buyer’s tips (reviewer, Adamo, July 12, 2020) they got directly from the company. The kit comes with 1 growing cup but we used plastic cups (16 oz solo cups) so the crystals could be removed super easy when done growing. We let them grow approx 3 weeks and when the solvent in the cups were almost gone and crystals had grown pretty tall, we gently removed them from the solo cups and let them sit/air dry over night before setting on lighted stand and all worked out great!(reviewer, Adamo, July 12, 2020) they got directly from the company; Here are a few tips to growing great crystals-• With evaporation the solvent creeps up the walls of a glass vessel. Much better containers are made of polypropylene or Teflon, (a plastic yogurt cup or solos cup works well) The solvent doesn’t creep up these types of containers. This also makes it a bit easier to remove crystals from the bottom after they have grown.• stir for 30 seconds in one direction then 30 seconds in the opposite direction• Stability is key so place your crystals somewhere with as little movement or temperature variation as possible.• The crystals do not need light to grow so you could place them inside a cabinet if that is easier. If you chose this method, you may want to leave them an extra couple days. (we leave ours for 30 days resulting in 1 1/2″-2″ points)

    Poor instructions
This is a “jumbo” version of the normal NatGeo set that’s sold in stores. It comes with three times the powder stuff so that it can make a bigger crystal. My issue is that the instructions that came with it were identical to the small set, right down to the amount of water to use. I was skeptical, but my kiddo and I followed said instructions perfectly, because it’s all about being precise and learning science. I figured maybe it was supposed to have a higher concentration. Unfortunately, we stirred and stirred for ten straight minutes in the hot water and couldn’t get it to dissolve entirely–it was physically impossible. We ended up having to transfer to a much bigger container than it said and having to add more water and more water until (go figure) the concentration from the original set was reached. Then it dissolved no problem. Unfortunately, by then, we were half an hour into stirring this stuff, and kiddo was frustrated that we weren’t following instructions and things weren’t working. It took all the fun out of it.It should also be noted that you need a big glass mixing bowl for this. The stuff seems to wash out okay after you’re finished, but plan on a BIG vessel. It doesn’t come with anything to use. Also, the crystal itself doesn’t glow, and especially not like the photo. The “seed rock” glows a bit, but the crystal you grow on it is just clear. Bit of false advertising there. It’s cool stuff… why are they deceptive about additional features?Overall, this was super frustrating. I expect more from NatGeo. Some of these kits have been really fun and cool, and others have been complete busts for one reason or another. They need to do more testing and quality control on their end before releasing products.

This will be a Christmas gift for my granddaughter who really enjoys anything scientific. Last year I had gotten her a couple of the National Geographic kits and she just loved them. The kits last year were looking for gemstones and fossils. She enjoyed them so much that I thought this year she could grow her own crystals. I think the National Geographic kits are a great and fun learning tool for kids. I would highly recommend them. Ordering and delivery was very simple. Delivered earlier than stated. Thank you Amazon.
