The cheese flavored one smells god awful but my kitty doesnât seem to care much, even though it made him flinch the first time he smelled it too. But itâs effective. He had a bit of redness on his gums and plaque/tarter. Vet suggested a teeth cleaning but Iâm afraid to anesthetize him and Iâve tried so many other teeth cleaning products that didnât seem to work. This one works. The smell is terrible but it works. The smell doesnât seem to bother him anymore and he doesnât fight me when I apply it to his teeth. Iâd recommend it.

Here’s the thing:1. $25 is ridiculously expensive;2. Frankly, I want something to tame my dog’s breath and this didn’t do much.3. On the upside, my dog didn’t hate it, but as brushing is a once a week event, I’ll get him flavors that, maybe he won’t like as much if they’re more effective on the dog breath.

Unbelievable improvement in condition of teeth
I do not have any before pictures, but I started using brushing my two dogs teeth with PetSmile after my terrier had her second expensive tooth extraction and the other was due for a dental cleaning. Six months later, my cattle dog had his annual exam and no longer needed to have his teeth cleaned. His teeth are much cleaner than they were been six months ago! Both dogs like both available flavors.I use a finger brush with little rubber bumps all the way around. That seems to work better for us than either toothbrush or applicator wand. The key is I give them each a VOHC approved chew after brushing. That made my stubborn cattle dog compliant with the whole tooth brushing concept!

I have have been brushing my rescue dog’s teeth daily since I adopted her 14 months ago. I used a different brand at first but my dog really disliked it. I switched to this brand two months ago and although she still doesn’t enjoy getting her teeth brushed, she doesn’t run away like she did with the other brand.When the vet first examined her shortly after adoption, he remarked that she had some calculus on her back teeth and that the only way it would come off was with a professional cleaning. However, he felt that we could wait another year or two for the cleaning.Today I noticed that the calculus was greatly reduced on her back teeth. I believe it was due to this toothpaste. I used the other brand for one year and there was no improvement–I used this brand for 2 months (rotisserie chicken flavor, although I think it smells minty) and there was a noticeable difference.I regret not taking a before photo to show the vet. Hopefully my dog’s teeth will sparkle at her next checkup.

I bought this because it was approved by VOHC or whatever. I was told these are the only products proven to work when it has that on the label. In this case I feel it is the best toothpaste I have ever used on my dog. I would recommend this to others moving forward.

Iâll open by saying that my dogs seemed to like the chicken flavour, but are turning their nose up at the cheese flavour, which is a but disappointing, but I dont think reflects the product overall. I choose petsmile over other dog toothpastes because I know itâs the only one approved by VOHC. One of my dogs will let me brush his teeth with it, while the other just lets me rub it on her teeth. I do a lot of things to manage my dogsâ teeth, so I canât say for certain how hige the effect this has compared to the other things, but overall my medium-large dogs do not have significant plaque or tartar buildup.
