Founder Katie McCarron turned her nutritional eye to her aging poodle, Rosie, who had lost weight and interest in food. The unnatural supplements in commercial dog food shocked Katie. She began to cook homemade meals, expanding into more healthy dog and cat products.

Great topper
No idea why this has any bad reviews. Itâs fresh dog food in a bag. It doesnât look like mush. I use it as a topper to supplement my dogâs food. He loves it. If you push the bottom of the bag out to make it flatter when you get near the end, you are able to get every last scoop out.

Excellent dog food with no synthetic chelated minerals
This is a very good dog food and the pouches make it so easy to serve, much easier than the boxes. It looks like real food, the dogs love it, smells good, and in combo with Dr. Martyâs it has given my dogs beautiful coats and a lot more energy. Plus, I donât have any overweight dogs and their muscle tone is excellent and there is less waste. Neither product to the best of my knowledge uses synthetic chelated minerals.After I lost a dog to copper storage disease and had a $7000 vet bill, I started researching chelated minerals. Found in almost all dog foods under various names. Unlike natural copper which can be sluffed, chelated copper cannot and builds up. It appears this disease is on the rise and many researchers feel it points to chelated (synthetic) copper. Most dog foods, including those claiming human grade and organic use chelated (synthetic) minerals because it is easy, cheap, and they can label their product as nutritionally complete. So please be careful.I believe in self-feed so I use Honest Kitchen (sadly chelated synthetic minerals) until I can find another dry dog food, for teeth cleaning crunch but they donât eat much. I cook some for my dogs and add some Just For Dogs frozen (sadly chelated minerals). Hopefully, I have cut down on their exposure to chelated (synthetic) minerals enough to help and still be cost effective for me.

Local is best, and this one is really worth the $
I live in the Pacific Northwest and have a young rescue dog who is not really food motivated. I have spent money on all kinds of quality commercial dog foods that dogs i owned in the past readily ate, but this one has walked away from or reluctantly eaten (after 36 hours). It is not good for her to starve herself, and although my motto is “They’ll eat if they are hungry” I saw her getting skinnier and skinner over time — for a young dog of about 2.5 years, that’s never good. I’ve had her checked out thoroughly and worked with her to reduce or eliminate phobias and behaviors she picked up as a street puppy. So after months of trial and error with those pricey national brands of wet and dry foods, I found the Portland Pet Food company. Like some of the other ‘national’ brands of pouched meals (hello Farmer, Ollie, and the like) Portland Pet Food is human grade meat, some kind of starch (potato, rice, yams or pumpkin) and one or two other vegetables like green beans and carrots. NO weird spices (one of the brands included cinnamon!) and very little added moisture, unlike brands that rely on ‘gravy’ to look appealing to the hoomans. So now I scoop a quarter cup of high-end kibble and a third of a pouch of Portland Pet Food into her bowl, give it a stir, and she’s ready to scarf it down. She’s still food bowl shy, a psychological scar she picked up at the massive dog rescue facility where she was placed with 70 other rescues on a ranch, but since I switched over to a different food twice a day, this little gal is progressing in a healthy way… and one day I can even dream of training her for Agility or Therapy.

Quality ingredients, but it upsets my dogs stomach
I like what is in there and it is well packaged. My dog seems to love it as well, she gobbles it up quickly. The downside is it seems to upset her stomach as she has bad diarrhea after eating this. If I only mix in a small portion with her kibble every 2 or 3 days she seems to tolerate better with only a mild softening of her stool.

It’s what my older dog needed
Maisey Jane is very senior for a Saint Bernard. She was losing weight and wasn’t interested in eating much. We have tried many things but found that the best thing to get her to eat has been Portland Pet Food Packets. She needs her energy to keep up with all of the grandkids.

Dogs love it
Our dogs have allergies and can only eat salmon food which can be hard to find. They loved this food and ran to their bowls. My only complaint, and it’s a small one, is the pleat in the bottom of the bag made it hard to get all the food out and a little messy. Buy, I would certainly buy this again.

The food seems very good in terms of ingredients but my 4m old puppy got ill when she tried the chicken meal. She vomited and started a diaria with blood on the stool. I will wait a while until i consider again
