For decades snoring was treated with very expensive, custom made mandibular repositioning devices (MRD’s). Then PureSleep was invented by Dr. Fenton, DDS and Dr. Kramer, MD, an ear, nose and throat specialist. Dr. Fenton remarked that “Many of my patients were unable or unwilling to pay thousands of dollars for a custom-made snoring mouthpiece – so we invented PureSleep.”

PureSleep’s patented, adaptable design dramatically reduced the cost of an MRD, and well over a million PureSleep mouthpieces have been sold per dentist prescription.

Then in 2019 the FDA granted over -the-counter (OTC) clearance to PureSleep which means you can now, finally, solve your snoring conveniently and affordably. Some other snoring mouthpieces are adjustable but bulky. Others aren’t as bulky but can’t adapt to different bite types. PureSleep’s patented design gives you the best of both. PureSleep uses a technique called ‘mandibular repositioning’ whereby the device gently holds your lower jaw forward, opening the upper airway and eliminating the vibrations that cause snoring.

Throat sprays, special pillows and opening your nostrils (either by using nose strips or sticking little “baskets or clips” into your nostrils) may seem like a convenient solution for snoring, but they don’t work, according to research done by the United States Air Force (“Popular Snore Aids: Do they work?”, Capt. Peter Michaelson and Col. Eric Mair, Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, June, 2004). In contrast, mouthpieces that use mandibular repositioning, such as PureSleep, have been shown to work in numerous clinical studies by reputable research institutions worldwide (“Does an oral appliance reduce palatal flutter and tongue base snoring?”, Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, May, 2007).

Fitting PureSleep is quick and easy. Just immerse the device in boiling water and mold it to the shape of your mouth. We include a step-by-step Instruction Guide in your PureSleep kit.

From the Inventor

“Many of my patients were unable or unwilling to pay thousands of dollars for a custom-made snoring mouthpiece so I invented PureSleep.”

– Douglas Fenton, DDS

Why You Snore

The soft tissue at the back of the throat relaxes during sleep, partially blocking the airway. As air rushes through this narrowed opening, it causes the tissue to “flutter” like a flag in the wind. This vibration causes the unmistakable sound of snoring.

How It Works

PureSleep works by a technique called ‘mandibular repositioning’ whereby the device gently holds your lower jaw forward, opening the upper airway, allowing air to flow freely and eliminate the vibrations that cause snoring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe?

Mandibular repositioning to reduce snoring has been prescribed by dentists and physicians for over two decades.

How difficult is it to fit the device?

Fitting PureSleep is quick and easy. All you do is immerse the device in boiling water and mold it to the shape of your mouth. We include a colorfully-illustrated step-by-step instruction booklet in your PureSleep kit.

Is it adjustable?

Yes, PureSleep is adjustable. There are three settings that align to standard bite, over-bite or under-bite. You select the setting when you are fitting the device.

How does PureSleep differ from an athletic mouthguard?

Though it may look similar, the PureSleep device is significantly different from an athletic mouthguard. PureSleep is an adjustable device designed to hold your lower jaw slightly forward, thus opening your airway while you sleep. Unlike athletic mouthguards our patented device is made from two different high-quality plastics, including a soft plastic on the inside, and a hard plastic on the outside which gives it more structural rigidity while requiring less material overall, making it less bulky and therefore more comfortable. Our device is manufactured in the USA with only American materials. Finally, an athletic mouthguard is only designed to protect your teeth and mouth from injury; it is not designed to hold your jaw in a specific position.

How does PureSleep differ from other MRD’s?

There are several key differences between PureSleep and other MRD’s. First and foremost, PureSleep is adjustable via several settings that are selected during the initial fitting whereas most competitive products either have just one setting or they have a bulky adjustment mechanism. Unlike other MRD’s and athletic mouthguards, our patented design includes two different kinds of high-quality plastics: a hard plastic on the outside and a soft plastic on the inside which provides the necessary structural strength with less material, making PureSleep more comfortable because it’s less bulky. Finally, PureSleep is manufactured in the USA with only American-sourced materials, unlike many competitive products which are manufactured in China.

Welcome to PureSleep! PureSleep was invented by Dr. Douglas Fenton and Dr. Bernard Kramer, who used it in their practices for over ten years, typically charging their patients about 400 dollars. Over time, many other doctors began using it to treat their patients. Then Noel Lindsay entered the picture. He was newly married and his wife kept kicking him out of bed because he snored… bummer! This led him on a long journey to dentists and physicians to find a suitable treatment. He finally tried a treatment called ”mandibular repositioning,” which was very successful but extremely expensive – about 1,200 dollars. Thus PureSleep was born. He licensed their mouthpiece and worked with them, as well as other dentists and physicians, to develop a way to make PureSleep more conveniently available at a significantly lower cost than what most dentists and physicians charge. Now PureSleep has obtained over-the-counter clearance from the FDA and is therefore available directly to you on Amazon.

Customers say

Customers like the snoring prevention of the mouth guard. They mention it improves sleep quality and is a great temporary solution for sleep apnea. However, some customers have reported discomfort, a terrible fit, and poor value for money. They also have issues with fallout. Opinions are mixed on its functionality, ease of use, and durability.

Definitely worked for me. Read review for details
Had the product for a few weeks now. This was recommended to me by someone and I was skeptical at first. I was viewing this as an alternative to a cpap machine.I knocked a star off for comfort because, let’s be honest, it’s a mouth guard. It doesn’t feel natural completely. To fit the piece you boil it like a football mouth guard. Only when you bite in it to mold it you have to jut your lower jaw forward past your upper. This is so when you wear it at night it pulls your jaw forward. This in effect acts like a jaw thrust maneuver in EMS. It holds your airway open.It works very well if you are a stomach sleeper like myself. I was heaving every night (per my wife) with frequent rounds of apnea, and VERY loud snoring. Like the neighbors can hear loud. Now I lay perfectly still with no snoring whatsoever when on my stomach. On my side there is occasional snoring but it isn’t as loud.On my back snoring is more frequent but nowhere near as loud.I knocked a star off for value because my friend stated these used to be 2 for $70 and now 1 for $50. Still not as expensive as a cpap but what happened? Also some reviews have mentioned you have to refit it ever 6 weeks and then buy a new one. I’m not sure how true that is. My friend has used his two he got for two years and not bought another. I’ll adjust review later if need be.The fit took about 10 days to gradually adjust to it. At first I was gagging using it. I trimmed it back a bit and over a few nights got used to it. I recommend using a sleep aid the first week or so to help you sleep with it. Stick with it for a few weeks and it becomes easier to fall asleep with. I don’t even wake up at night like I used to.Overall this is worth a shot ESPECIALLY if you are a stomach sleeper.Edit: one year later. Just ordered a second one. After about 6 months it definitely needs to be re-molded. It loses its perfect fit and “grip” and slides out of place. I think I’ll have to order a new one every 8 months give or take to keep the fit right.

    Do not buy this
When I first removed it from the box the shape looked as if it would not fit an average sized bite pattern. I followed the directions and trimmed as they said. It became uncomfortable where trimming was. The next morning my jaws were in pain and have remained as so into the evening. So I will not be wearing it again. There goes a night of sleep interrupted due to the trying this. If you continue through with the purchase good luck.

    Does help with snoring
I have suspected for months I have sleep apnea, and my insurance will not pay for a sleep study. I’ve tried several items to help control my snoring which in turn allows me and my partner to get a good night’s rest.the reason I only gave it 3 stars is, even though I do sleep better for a bit, and wake up feeling better about midway through the night I am awake and in pain due to the mouth guard. It makes my bottom gums hurt and makes my jaw throb and I can longer sleep with the mouth guard in. For about 4-4.5 hours I get really restful sleep. Not sure if it is worth it but I will continue to push through in hopes my mouth becomes adapted to the device?

    Wonderful customer service from PureSleep
Even though the mouthpiece doesn’t work for me, I am very satisfied with the customer service from PureSleep. The first time I received the mouthpiece, I did an incorrect fitting process, so I exchanged the unit through Amazon, but they sent me a used unit.PureSleep contacted me to see how the mouthpiece works this time, then I explained the issue with the used unit I received. They helped me to get a new unit trough Amazon again anf finally I received a unused unit. This time the fitting process was good and the first week I noted a significant improvement reducing my snoring by probably 75%.The next couple of weeks I continue using the mouthpiece but I started to feel pain in my jaws, then I decided to rest for few days not using the mouthpiece. After this, I returned to use the mouthpiece in a regular basis, however the pain returned and was a little bit worst, so I stopped using the mouthpiece. Then, I tried to return the unit, but the return window was closed at that time in my Amazon’s account. However, PureSleepe sent me a follow up email to see how the mouthpiece worked this time, then I explained everything, and even when the return window was closed at Amazon, they made a full refund to me through my Amazon’s account without the return of the mouthpiece.I am so sad because the mouthpiece didn’t work for me, but I am really happy with PureSleep and Amazon since they refund my money without the return. Many thanks PureSleep and Amazon!

It works for me but it takes some adjustment
So this is a great idea and it works fairly well. I would suggest a few things:1. The size/shape seems a little too small for an average adult mouth. They only have one size (fits all). I was able to adjust it a little bit by opening the back out a little wider before biting into the mold so that all of my teeth were on the mold material. If I had not done that the material would have been inside my back teeth.2. Make sure you prepare and test fit it a few times cold before you mold it so you know how to center it and where your jaw will go. You have to push your jaw forward during the molding so you need to know how far.3. Do not bite super hard, you will naturaly want to bite too hard which may push the mold too deep.4. Do not move your jaw while it cools in your mouth. It should have a nice snug fit and almost have a suction.5. It kinda forces you to breathe thru your mouth. Even though they say not to do that, when you’re asleep your lips will be open so you cannot control that very much. Thus, it will dry your mouth out a bit especially if you sleep in the cold dry air.6. You will also probably drool a bit, maybe more than usual.7. But it does seem to work.8. Your jaw will feel a little weird in the morning but goes back to normal after 30 minutes or so, especially if you eat breakfast. The company has good communication and they support the product so don’t be afraid to give it a try.
