In-depth, well researched and mind expanding
I found this book to be well researched, organized, thorough, and informative. I found myself understanding the stone that we use in our homes to a higher degree, reflecting on hardness scale and porosity. if you are a rockhound and want to go digging for crystals or certain types of stones, information is included about what types of environments you would find them. I found this book to be crammed full of information about each type of classification and even included information about meteors. Since they can have high metal content, I can completely understand why they can be used to make swords. Part of me thinks we have lost our ability to understand our natural world and skills to utilize it. But this books helps keep that connection alive. Mari Silva writes in such a crisp and refreshing way, I look forward to reading more of her books.

Great information!
Well, Silva is at again and has just put another resource in My Library for the empteenth time. I have always been a collector rocks since early childhood and have passed this hobby on to my children and grandchildren. As I grew into an adult, I added crystals to my rock collection. My 10-year-old grandson has now added crystals to his collection also. What fun we will have with this reference book. Now we can determine the rock’s classifications and how to identify them and how to mine our own. I’m thinking that his next birthday, I will be getting him a rock polisher.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Informative book
The book details the rocks, their names, types and how to tell the difference; it made me look at the stones differently and wonder how old they are and which type. If you are into geology, then the book will give you a summary of the rocks and may help you, and if you are into healing and want to know which stones to use, you will also get the answer from the book as it explains the healing benefits of the stones. I liked the book and will be referring to it whenever I want to buy a stone.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Expand your mind and your knowledge
It is especially nice to have a reference on âstonesâ that is clear, concise, and to the point. This book provides you with the basic information needed to get started and be able to identify the various types of stones, minerals, gems, and crystals. The photos of the stones discussed are excellent representations. Using the same format to discuss each makes what can be a truly in-depth topic much easier to understand. I appreciate having the list of references for further information and exploration.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Thought it would be colored.
Pictures have no colors only black and white (grey). However it does look like a nice book though. 🙂
