Keep produce fresher longer with this Rubbermaid FreshWorks Produce Saver 3 Piece Set. Revolutionary FreshVent technology creates an optimal environment for fruits and vegetables by regulating the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide in and out of the produce container. The CrispTray at the bottom of the food container elevates produce away from moisture and promotes airflow to help prevent spoilage. The built in lid filter never needs to be replaced and will last a lifetime. Use the medium food storage container for strawberries or sliced fruit and the large storage containers for heads of lettuce or whole veggies. Longer lasting produce means fewer trips to the grocery store. Snap the bottom of the base to the top of the lid for easy storage and organization

Wilted Produce is a Thing of the Past
In 2016 a Consumer Reports article claimed that their test of this product and OxoGreenworks did not show an appreciable difference between storing produce in the original store container and these. But the text of the article reported that the Rubbermaid kept greens in better condition than the Oxo. So I was confused.I tried one of the Rubbermaid – and was so impressed that I bought 4 more. We store all of our produce in these now – Romaine, Arugula, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots. Haven’t tried fruit.Where the romaine never lasted more than a week in the store bag before becoming limp & brown, it stays good for close to 3 weeks in Rubbermaid. Arugula, a delicate baby green, would become slimy & limp in 4 days in the store bag. It’s good for 10 in Rubbermaid. The celery would become limp within a week in the refrigerator’s “crisper” – I just used some after 20 days from the Rubbermaid and it was fine.As a test, I put the bottom plastic tray from the FreshWorks into an ordinary Rubbermaid kitchen storage container and put some romaine & celery in it – and did the same with the FreshWorks. While the ordinary Rubbermaid improved the quality for several days longer than the crisper, the FreshWorks produce lasted more than twice as long. The only difference is the so-called Fresh Vent. Rubbermaid will only describe it as a membrane allowing the right amount of oxygen & carbon dioxide in & out of the container. It’s not the least bit obvious what the composition of the membrane is, but it is the obvious source of the container’s effectiveness. Rubbermaid declined a more scientific explanation when asked. So in this particular instance, it would seem that Consumer Reports test differs from real-world experience. This thing’s great.Specs: Inside length 8 1/2 in, inside width 6 1/2 in, inside height 4 1/2 in, lid depth 1 1/4 in (increasing inside height by 1 inch.)Update – May 9, 2018 After a 6 week hospital stay & recuperation I hesitated to think what I would find in the refrigerator. The produce of course was all in these Rubbermaid Food Savers. The temperature of the interior center of the refrig is usually kept at 36 degrees. The broccoli was fine – not yellow of soft. The arugula was gone – wilted, slimy & disgusting, as expected. Cauliflower – fine – like new. Harry & David Pears – soft but not wilted – still edible. It was the romaine that surprised me – some of the outer leaves had become slimy & brown. But the centers were still fresh, green & crisp. Of 3 full heads, cut in half to fit, there was about 50% that was still edible. After 6 weeks. That’s just ridiculous. I don’t pretend to know what the secret is, but it certainly works.

Large size does not accommodate a standard 1lb salad mix. Does seem to extend longevity by several days.
So far, so good.I buy the standard 1 lb clamshell containers of organic mixed greens, arugula or kale from the grocery store.Generally, because my hb and I have a salad every night with dinner, we are able to use the entire amount with minimal waste. Occasionally however, if we dine out several nights in a row during the week, we sadly end up having to toss out quite a bit of the bin.The raised ventilated bottom of these seem to do a better job at preventing the soggy, slimy and icky mess that inevitably happens over time.I have not had these for very long, but already arugula is still fresh perky after 6 days.My two peeves, both relate to the size. The large container is still too small to accommodate the grocery store standard 1 lb bin of greens. Almost 3/4 of a new bin of greens will fit into the large size produce saver. Either I put what’s left in a second produce saver, or leave it in the original packaging and use from there first.I am happy though, that the small size bin does fit an entire 2lb (Costco sized) container of grape tomatoes.Another size related peeve, is that the shape of the large container is more square than rectangular. What this means in my particular case, is that it does not fit in my produce drawer. Our refrigerator is 23 cu ft counter depth, side-by-side Whirlpool – – – not huge, but certainly not small. The actual container will fit in the drawer, but not without first pulling the drawer completely out in order to get it in. I end up storing it on a shelf in the refrigerator, but it takes up almost a full half of the shelf.Overall, because it seems to extend the longevity of my greens, I am happy with this.I would be over the moon, if it fit in my produce bin as did the standard store bin it replaces.

Keeps your produce fresh and ready to eat.
I like to eat salads and prefer to buy the bags of ready to eat greens for the convenience, but have experienced some loss as the greens do not stay fresh long enough for me to finish a bag. I purchased this product as it got good reviews and Rubbermaid is a trusted company. There is a built-in filter in the lid, and this filter pulls the gas that is emitted by the fruit/vegetable you are storing in the container away from the produce. There is a small plastic “shelf” with cut-outs to allow moisture to drain and 4 little “feet” to elevate the produce and keep it away from the moisture. And the seal on the lid helps keep the freshness locked in and air locked out.I purchased this medium sized FreshWorks container because I previously bought the 2 piece set that has the large and the small size FreshWorks container and absolutely love them. All of the containers are very easy to open and close and to clean and they really prolong the life of my produce. I can fit 2 bags of pre-cut salad greens in the large container and then use this medium one and the smaller one for fruits and other produce. Their cost may seem to be a little high, but the money I’ve saved from not having to throw away bad fruits and vegetables was recouped in just a short amount of time. Very happy with all 3 of the sizes of the FreshWorks containers and would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to save money by keeping their produce fresh and ready to eat.Rubbermaid FreshWorks 6.3 Cup Medium Produce Saver, Green

These produce storage containers are really good. They are pricey but they keep produce fresh for a very long time. I have started putting my mushrooms in this container (holds two small packets) and they were fresh and firm after ten days in the fridge. Baby cucumbers fit well too. DO NOT WASH THE VEGGIES UNTIL READY TO USE.
