How to Train Your Pet Away From Unwanted Area:
SVD.PET pet training mat provides three modes: Static Mode, Beep Mode, Static+Beep Mode. Place the training mat where your pet is not welcomed – on the couch or the counter. When your pet steps on the training mat, it will emit a harmless static pulse or a high-frequency beep so your fur baby knows the area is off limits.
For sound sensitive pets or small pets, start with the Beep mode. In this mode, set the intensity level at 4 or 5. As your pet starts to learn the area is off limits, you can begin to decrease the intensity until your pet is fully trained.
If your pet doesn’t respond to the Beep mode, switch to the Static + Beep mode. 5 intensity levels static pulse will be optional according to sensitivity of different pet. Starting with a lower lever and increasing the level only when it is needed. As your pet starts to learn the area is off limits, you can begin to decrease the intensity and switch to “Beep Mode”.
If you don’t want to be disturbed by the high frequency beep sound, you can switch the training mat to static mode. In this mode, the training mat will only emit static pulse.

Easy to set up the training mat: 
Attach controller to the mat
Align the electrical terminals on the back of the controller with the holes on the mat. Ensure the controller is on the upside of the mat.
Insert and tighten the screws
Insert and tighter the two screws through the back of the mat. Screws and the screwdriver are included in the package.
Insert a 9V battery
Remove the battery cover and insert a 9V battery in the controller. (Battery is not included)
Turn on the controller
Press and hold the power button down until you hear two beeps to turn the controller on.
How to test the pet training mat with the tester:
Turn on the training mat by holding the power button for 3 seconds. You will hear 2 beeps.Set the mode to “Beep + Static” on the mat’s control box.Place the bottom of the tester on the mat. The bottom of the tester should touch 2 lines on the mat. Keep your hand away from the mat.If you hear a beep and the LED lights on the mat’s control box flash, it means your training mat is working properly.

UPDATED. skeptical at first…was amazed. it really worked. I was sold on this product, until now
Update: Unit stopped working after only 4-5 months. We did train our dog not to counter surf using this mat. She did well to where we stopped using it, but she decided to try surfing again and pulled stuff out of the sink/garbage; dangerous for her. I decided to turn it back on while we were away. I replaced new battery. It would not power on so I had to fix the tangs to ensure a good connection to the battery. Now it just randomly goes off, which is ok but freaks the dog out when alarm goes off. Shopping for another solution.I was hesitant to buy based on various reviews but our dog was determined to counter surf while we were away. I did some research and found this one to try. it comes rolled up. popped in a 9V battery and set the alarm only, you have to hold the power button for a couple seconds. did some testing. it was not going off when i put my foot on it. found out that if you are wearing tennis shoes it will not go off. took my shoe off and it alarmed (with my socks on). I set the alarm/shock to med and set it down in front of our counter/sink and we went out. We monitored our dog cam and saw her go to the counter, it alarmed and she immediately backed away. have not had an issue with her surfing since. note, if you spill water (or drops) on it, it will keep alarming. You need to turn it off and wipe it down, before turning it back on.

Great training mat
These things work great! We recently purchased a second one for training the cats not to scratch at the carpet when doors are shut.Our first one was to train them not to jump into the crib, so they wouldn’t get used to napping in it before the little one arrived, and it’s worked very well.The lowest setting for 2 10-15 pound cats works well. One of the cats stands on it for a moment and then gets very annoyed at it. The other instantly hops off. I’m sure the second level would be an instantaneous reaction for both, but it’s working fine at the moment.Glad we got these.

Delayed to no trigger when cat walks on it.
Our cat is 11-12 lbs and there is a large delay before it sets off and sometimes not at all. My cat is already off the mat before it even triggers. My 30 lbs dog literally sat on it and it didnât trigger. It goes off with the tester but thatâs it. Sending back unfortunately

Works as expected
Nice item, simple to use. You can change the levels or set it to only beep. Now…it is not an answer to every problem. My dog is now on the sofa a lot less, but he learned to use the sofa arms and back to walk on. I did on one occasion actually see him sitting on it. He had managed to find a way to sit where his fur blocked the device from functioning.You do have to make sure the bottom of your dogs feet are trimmed, it will not work through their fur, it has to contact skin to work. I cannot really speak about the battery life, I am still on the first battery after about 1 month of use. But overall it did what I hoped, Keeps him off the couch as much, barking out the window. They are fairly slim, so if you need to cover a larger area you may need more than one.

Shocking!
I tried it out myself before the cats and it gives one heck of a jolt! Many of the poor reviews are from people using it the wrong way! If you look at their pictures, the mat is upside down. Of course it wouldn’t work for them because they couldn’t follow directions! Note: wires bare and up , not down with the plastic covering them. It’s really not that hard!

Works well, better than competitor
I first bought a mat from a different manufacturer. Failed out of the box. Returned it and got the SVD.PET mat. Easy to set up. And it works (two cats). In fact once the cats learn they don’t like the mat I don’t even have to turn it on. Only regret- I should have bought a slightly bigger mat.”Easy to Fold”??? I don’t think I’d fold it, or at least don’t crease it. I store it rolled up.

Wasn’t very useful
I had taken in a foster dog and was looking for something to protect living room furniture. This didn’t work out for me. When I put it on the couch it looked really ugly, it kept sliding off if the dog would jump up and it also meant that I couldn’t sit on the couch. I guess it would work if you didn’t care how your living room looked and you didn’t want to be able to sit on the couch yourself.
