It’s daunting when your child is diagnosed with a food allergy but just because they’re allergic to one, or indeed, several types of food doesn’t mean that they can’t eat delicious meals with the rest of the family, benefit from a healthy, balanced diet or (should they deserve them!) have tasty treats.
From shepherd’s pie, risottos, Thai curries and casseroles as well as cakes and desserts, The Allergy-Free Family Cookbook is packed full of 100 nutritious recipes, which allow everyone around the table to enjoy the same meal. Using ingredients that can be readily found in supermarkets, each recipe is free from all eight major food allergens: dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soya, gluten, sesame and shellfish.

So excited to get this new book. I love the recipes that are so quick and easy to make. It is written by two British mums and all the ingredients are really easy to get in my local stores in Brooklyn. All the recipes are free from 8 major allergens and the recipes give advice about what you can add back in if you are not allergic. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with an allergy, especially multiple allergies or intolerance. So pleased I purchased this book!

Disappointed
Not at all what I was expecting. Most the recipes I have tried are sub-par. The book doesnât do a good job with severe food allergies. Most recipes are not very kid centric.

I recently purchased this cookbook. My family does a lot of cooking on the weekends and we have a 14 month old who is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts so we make most of our stuff from scratch. We have tried 5 of the recipes from this book so far and have loved all 5 of them (the orange ginger salmon, bacon wrapped pork, five-a-day pasta, refrigerator cake, and jam tarts). Looking forward to trying the easy peasy fish pie this weekend. The recipes are not too difficult and have loads of flavour without too much salt. I would definitely recommend this book for families with kids.

Leckere Rezepte, bei denen trotz des Verzichts auf Allergene nichts fehlt. Wer ein Kind mit einer Lebensmittelallergie hat, macht hier nichts falsch.

Not meals I would cook for my family. Love the baby and toddler book though.

I have two children, one of whom has a diagnosed allergy, whilst the other one has no allergies at all. This book, with its imaginative and varied recipes and practical advice on coping with allergies in all sorts of different situations, (including a section written by a leading paediatric allergy consultant) has been extremely helpful. My whole family has enjoyed these recipes including the chicken korma, quinoa salad, patatas bravas, and the lentil salad to name but a few. I am using it as an almost daily reference book and it means that I do not have to cook different food for my allergic son. It has also helped the whole family to branch out and try some new and delicious food. The book has been reviewed by a dietician specialising in allergy so you can be sure the recipes are balanced nutritionally. There are also tips on how to add ingredients back in, if your child does not happen to be allergic to that particular food type. Highly recommended both to those who have family members with allergies and also more generally. The recipes are delicious, irrespective of whether you are allergic or not, and it is a useful addition to any book shelf. As well as using it for my own family, I have recently had two occasions when friends with allergies came to visit and I used the book then to find recipes that would suit everyone. Excellent!
