This is a beautifully illustrated book and has lots of interesting information about rocks, minerals, fossils, and shells! I gave the book to my grandson for his birthday and I hope it will build his interest in rocks. I loved reading it and may order another copy for myself!

Loved the organization of the different gems and minerals. Each one got a page with lots of pictures and descriptions. My daughter was very interested and uses this book almost daily to check what kind of rocks she has and to learn more info on each one. Highly recommend it for all rock hounds.

Warning: Iâve never held a DK book I didnât like. The âOur World In Picturesâ series is outstanding for parent-child reading at just about any age, i.e. the child looks at the pictures while the parent reads/talks or teaches them to read. I purchased three from this series and theyâre all excellent. Careful, once you know about these book youâll never have an excuse to make the TV a baby sitter again. ð

It’s OK. I’ll keep it just not my favorite
All the books by this author use BCE/CE which is confusing for a child who has already learned the original wording. Doesn’t keep my child’s interest as much as I thought it might. The cover is a lot more appealing then the text. But I also like gemstones in general so maybe I’m biased. It’s not terribly captivating even as an adult but I will still keep it for science reference.
