Too small for my big head
For health reasons, I would like to breathe through my nose when I sleep. I’ve tried different ways to tape my mouth closed. None worked successfully for me. I saw this chin strap and thought I would give it a try.The chin strap had an additional soft mesh material where it touches the chin. Unlike some products, it did not have an noticeable odor when it first opened.The first time I wore the strap was during a nap. I realized it was too tight. I felt uncomfortable pressure in several places including my jaw. I examined it and realized I would need to modify it in order for it to work for me.I added an extra 1.5 inches in length by using a safety pin to attach a Velcro extension. After sleeping with it this way, I learned that the ear cutouts were too low for my ears. So I used scissors to make the holes higher up the sides. Finally, I could wear the chin strap with it comfortably on my head and only gently pressing on the chin.I slept with it that way. At first, it worked well. But through the night, it came off a couple times. After the second time, I didn’t bother to put it back on.After experimenting with it for three nights, I’m about ready to give up on it for night time. Or perhaps I’ll start off the night with it and wear it until it comes off.But my modified strap does work okay for naps where I don’t change position so often. The slight pressure on my chin does make me naturally breathe through my nose. Unlike tape approaches, I can still open my mouth to cough or yawn if I need to. After taking off the strap, I tend to continue breathing through my nose for a while.The included nose clips were interesting to try. They did give me more confidence that air intake through the nose would be maximized, although I couldn’t really tell any difference with or without them. Surprisingly, the exhaled air made a mildly annoying noise as it exited through them. The exhale noise would have been worth it if they were increasing the volume of inhalation.

Felt like it choked me
I was really hoping this product would help with my snoring issues, but I cannot even fall asleep in it. I have a sensitive gag reflex due to anxiety, and this strap sets it off no matter how loose I try to wear it. The pressure near my throat makes me gag and start to dry-heave after a few minutes. The snore-guards likewise obstructed my breathing through my nose. I did not realize they went inside the nostrils when ordering this product, and I will go back to using disposable nose strips instead.I intend to keep trying to adjust to this product, but so far I can’t tolerate wearing it.
