What to Watch on HBO Max

Streaming services are struggling to differentiate themselves to earn your money, and right now Max is working on rebuilding goodwill with a wide selection of content for every demographic. While it doesn’t have the sheer volume of original content that Netflix does, Max mixes in stuff from affiliated cable networks throughout the month. Throw in live basketball, cycling, and pro wrestling and it’s a solid investment. Here are our picks for the best new movies and shows arriving on the streaming service in February 2025.

Puppy Bowl XXI (Feb. 9)

The biggest night in sports is Feb. 9, but it’s not because of the Chiefs or the Eagles (or whoever makes the Super Bowl). No, it’s because of Animal Planet’s annual absurd canine halftime show, the Puppy Bowl. Two teams of adorable canines do their best to play the game, and this year showcases 142 rescue puppies from 80 shelters across 40 states and their journeys to adoption.

The White Lotus: Season 3 (Feb. 16)

Return to Mike White’s jet-black comedy series about vacationers and employees of the White Lotus resort chain. The third season takes place in Thailand over the course of a week, as an almost entirely new cast of greats like Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, and Parker Posey join season one favorite Natasha Rothwell. White has said that the focus of the third season will be death and spirituality, and we’re definitely psyched for it.

Elevation (Feb. 21)

This one flew under the radar in theaters, but Elevation is a fun post-apocalyptic monster movie with a good lead performance from Anthony Mackie. After a species of apex predators emerges from underground and decimates humanity, pockets of survivors struggle to hold on in mountaintop colonies that the creatures don’t venture to. When a ragtag group heads down below the safety line to find a way to drive back the creatures, things get hairy.
